The YMCA is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Controllerto lead our accounting operations. The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, fund and grant accounting, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who takes pride in accuracy and process, enjoys developing a team, and serves as a trusted partner to program and operations leaders who rely on timely, reliable financial information.

The Controller will play a key role in improving workflows, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring the association's financial records reflect the highest standards of integrity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

2. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the finance department including management of all functions (i.e. cash receipts, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, retirement contributions, financial management of grants, etc.).

3. Hires, trains, supervises and manages all finance personnel.

4. Oversees, manages, and ensures that all financial functions within the Y, including budgets, accounts payable and receivable, grants management and general accounting areas are being properly executed while assuring proper separation of duties to fulfill auditory and monetary requirements.

5. Maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of all accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds, including areas related to expense allocation for retirement, investments, loans, etc.

6. Serves as a resource person to management and program personnel in all matters relating to finances, accounts payable, accounts receivable budgets, grant management, allocations.

7. Ensures preparation of complete and accurate monthly and annual financial statements as well as external audit, tracking and renewal of certificates of deposit and similar funds.

8. Prepares financial statements required by management, the Board, and outside agencies.

9. Must be able to set and meet deadlines to ensure timely reporting of financial health of the association by one’s self and all others who have impact on association finances.

10. Maintains records and prepares internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies. Prepares the IRS Form 990 tax return for review by the auditors, auditing committee and board.

11. Facilitates key functions such as annual independent audit. Develops and maintains key relationships with YMCA partners, banks and community leaders as appropriate.

12. Coordinates and supervises operating cash flow management and assures all procedures meet internal best-practices as well as external requirements.

13. Works closely with YMCA collaboration partners (JCC, Townships, etc.) to distribute income and expenses accurately and timely according to contractual agreements.

14. Control of checks and balances for blank check distribution and credit card usage.

15. Administers contracts for the association in cooperation with originator or requestor to ensure compliance of recordkeeping, insurance, etc.

16. Administration of YERDI for retirement fund enrollment and contributions.

17. Attends meetings as required by association.

18. Be a role model of the four core values.

19. Works in a safe and conscientious manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Accounting Degree (AA or BA) or proven skill set/ knowledge to lead the finance department.

· Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting and finance management.

· Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills.

· A comprehensive understanding of our current financial software(s) as well as support software (i.e. Excel) and the ability to transfer that knowledge to staff.

· Ability to recruit, train and supervise staff in a variety of financial functions that support the finance department with an efficient and effective structure.

· An ability to prioritize and multi-task to ensure work flow parallels association needs.

· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must be able to conduct presentations in front of groups of people and deliver financial overview on behalf of the association.
