Our product mix includes concrete forming systems (ICF, steel-ply, wood forms), rebar in multiple grades, concrete accessories, drainage, sealers, hand tools, equipment rentals, and specialty construction and farm supply products. We fabricate custom cut-and-bend rebar with detailing capability and deliver direct to jobsites across our trade area. We are a Premiere Group company.
Position Summary
The Fabricator II / Material Handler is an experienced shop role that combines proficient rebar fabrication with broader material handling and yard responsibilities. This person operates cutting and bending equipment independently, reads and executes complex cut lists and bend schedules, supports junior fabricators, and plays a key role in managing raw material flow, finished goods staging, and yard organization. This is a production-critical position the person in this role directly affects order accuracy, shop throughput, and on-time delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication Production
- Independently operate rebar cutting and bending equipment to produce specification-compliant fabricated rebar
- Read, interpret, and execute cut lists, bend schedules, and basic shop drawings
- Verify finished pieces for dimensional accuracy and proper bend geometry before staging
- Manage production priorities to meet daily order completion targets
- Identify and communicate production issues, material shortages, or schedule conflicts to the supervisor
Material Handling & Yard Operations
- Receive and offload raw rebar stock; verify material grades, sizes, and quantities against purchase orders
- Operate forklift, overhead crane, and other material handling equipment to move stock and finished goods
- Maintain organized raw material storage proper labeling, grade separation, and stock rotation
- Stage and load finished fabrication orders for delivery; coordinate with the delivery team on timing
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and discrepancy reporting
Quality Control
- Perform first-piece and in-process checks against cut lists and bend schedules
- Identify and quarantine non-conforming pieces; document and communicate quality issues
- Ensure all outbound orders are correctly bundled, tagged, and match customer order documentation
- Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce rework, scrap, and order errors
Team Leadership & Safety
- Provide on-the-job guidance and support to Fabricator I team members
- Model safe equipment operation, PPE compliance, and shop housekeeping standards
- Assist the supervisor with training new shop employees on equipment operation and procedures
- Participate in safety inspections, incident reporting, and corrective action follow-up
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of experience in rebar fabrication, structural steel, or a related industrial production environment
- Proficient operation of rebar cutting and bending equipment
- Ability to read and execute cut lists, bend schedules, and basic structural drawings
- Forklift certified or able to obtain certification; overhead crane experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail order accuracy and dimensional precision are critical in this role
- Physical ability to lift 75+ lbs regularly and perform sustained physical work throughout a shift
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Experience with rebar detailing software or shop management systems
- Familiarity with ASTM rebar grades (A615, A706) and standard bend types and hooks
- Prior experience mentoring or leading junior shop employees
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- High school diploma or GED; vocational training or apprenticeship a plus
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Physically demanding industrial environment. This role requires regularly lifting 75+ lbs, operating heavy equipment, and working on your feet throughout a full shift. The shop environment includes noise, metal dust, and seasonal temperature variation. Full PPE is required at all times including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
