Machines learned to understand language. We’re teaching them to understand matter.
Forty percent of global manufacturing happens through physical and chemical processes inside pipes, tanks, and reactors. Despite decades of industrial automation, much of what happens inside them remains remarkably invisible. Manufacturing is the most ubiquitous and foundational sector in global economy, yet the way factories are fundamentally run have used the same control philosophies, manual operations, and legacy software for the past 60 years.
Laminar deploys novel sensors and edge hardware directly into live production environments, generating data that didn’t previously exist to build foundation models deployed in factory floors that understand chemistry, composition, quality, and material state in real time. We use that understanding to run autonomy and rethink how things are made.
The last generation of industrial automation taught machines to execute instructions reliably. The next will teach them to understand the processes they control and run autonomously, adaptively, and agentically: higher quality, safety, more efficiently, sustainably, and productively.
That future is already taking shape. Today, Laminar works with 7 of the world’s 10 largest food and beverage manufacturers and operates across hundreds of factories globally. Our systems have materially reduced waste, cut manufacturing downtime, saved water, chemicals, energy, and helped prevent safety and quality failures.
We are backed by tier-one investors in physical AI to make intelligent, self-improving production the new standard for industry.
Join us to build what makes matter intelligible, and the intelligible controllable.
The Role
We are looking for a PLC Integration Engineer to own the network and control-system layer of Laminar’s customer deployments. This is a hands-on technical role at the intersection of industrial automation, IT/OT networking, and edge software you will be the person who gets Laminar’s sensors and edge devices online, stable, and talking to Food and Beverage factory control systems.
You will work directly with customer IT and OT teams to configure networks, commission PLC connections, and troubleshoot integration issues from first install through steady-state operation. When things break, you dig in and fix them. When patternsemerge, you documentthem,so the next deployment moves faster.
This role is a launchpad. Engineers who thrive here grow into edge software engineering, senior FDE roles with full account ownership, or go-to-market paths in sales and solutions engineering.
What You Will Do
Network & PLC Integration
- Execute end-to-end network and PLC integration ofLaminar’sedge devices into customer OT environments both onsite and remotely covering IP configuration, VLAN setup, DMZ architecture, firewallrules, and cloud connectivity.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and PROFINET to establish reliable data exchange between Laminar hardware and customer PLCs/SCADA systems.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues in the field: invalid IP configurations, DNS resolution failures, NTP sync problems, and general IT/OT network outages affecting data flow.
- Work alongside customer process, IT, and OT teams during deployment pilots to bring Laminar sensors and edge hardware online reliably and on schedule.
- Contribute to productizing the integration process identify what is manual and repetitive today and help engineer it away so deployments scale faster tomorrow.
- Support Site Acceptance Test (SAT) completion and customer sign-off in coordination with the broader FDE team.
Documentation & Feedback Loop
- Systematically document integration challenges, workarounds, and field patterns; translate learnings into structured, actionable feedback for the edge device engineering team.
- Build and maintain integration runbooks, network topology diagrams, and troubleshooting guides that reduce time-to-resolution for recurring issues.
- Serve as a frontline member of Laminar’s customer support function monitor deployed site health, drive root-cause analysis on connectivity and hardware issues and create a feedback loop between field observations and product engineering to improve system resilience.
- Actively support Laminar’s sales team on pre-sales discovery calls and answer customer questions on cybersecurity, network/IT/OT architecture to get their approval.
- Travel Requirement: Up to 50% onsite at customer manufacturing facilities; typical visits 1–2 days.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with PLC platforms and industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Modbus (TCP and RTU), PROFINET, or equivalent.
- Practical proficiency with Git/GitHub, Python scripting, and Linux command-line fundamentals.
- Undergraduate coursework or equivalent demonstrated knowledge in networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, NTP, and TCP/IP stack.
- Comfortable getting hands dirty to debug data-flow problems you understand what a network trace tells you and you know how to follow a packet.
- Portfolio of projects (academic, personal, or professional) demonstrating proficiency in networking, systems integration, debugging, or problem-solving.
- Strong cross-functional communicator able to work across customer IT teams, plant-floor OT engineers, and internal software developers.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer sites as deployment schedules require.
- Advanced Linux skills: shell scripting, systemd service management, network diagnostics (tcpdump, netstat, ip, nmap).
- Experience with IT/OT convergence, Industry 4.0 architectures, or industrial network segmentation (Purdue model / ISA-99).
- Familiarity with time-series or sensor data; ability to identify anomalies and performance degradation in data streams.
- Experience with monitoring tooling, alerting infrastructure, or ticketing systems.
- Startup mindset adaptable, resourceful, and energized by building processes that don’t exist yet

Our pay ranges are established per Pave Compensation Software. We’re also proud to offer equity in our fast-growing startup and one of the most comprehensive benefits packages among startups at our stage. Laminar pays 100% of the individual health insurance premium for HMO medical, vision, and dental, offers flexible PTO, a $90/month transportation benefit, a $65/month health and wellness benefit, FSA, 12 company-paid holidays, an employer-matching 401(k) (unheard of at this stage!), and Greentown Labs membership, among other valuable resources. (*subject to change)
There are many easier places to work on AI. Laminar is for people who want the hardest version of their discipline. Models here must survive contact with physics. Hardware must survive years of continuous industrial operation. Software must integrate with machinery built decades ago. Everything we build ultimately has to work on a factory floor.
We believe exceptional people should be given exceptional amounts of ownership. At Laminar, you will have the context to form your own view, the permission to challenge ours, and the resources to pursue the right answers, whatever technical or organizational boundaries stand in the way. There are few layers between identifying something important and changing it.
We’re fortunate to work with a small polymathic team of hardware and software engineers, chemists, AI researchers, factory operators, and go-to-market wizardswho are unusually capable, curious, rigorous, ambitious, and low-ego. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.
Our Interview Process
1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
3. On-site interview, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
4. Finalists for Full-Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in-person
Final steps:
Two professional references are requested, ideally one from your current organization and one who served as your Manager
If an Offer Letter is extended, a Background check is conducted
Arecent study from LinkedIn showed that most women apply to jobs only when they meet 100% of the requirements, whereas men will hit the apply button if they hit 60%. Laminar is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. So, to the women and nonbinary folks out there feeling unsure if you're a perfect fit, we strongly encourage you to apply! If you're ready to play a key role in scaling a game-changing company that’s transforming the industrial sector and advancing sustainability, we want to hear from you!
