We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join a team in Merced, California in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This on-site position offers the opportunity to support core accounting operations across payroll, payables, receivables, and financial reporting while helping maintain accurate and organized records. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information in a structured environment.

Duties include:

  • Support daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation for payroll, retirement reporting, payables, receivables, and related accounting activities.
  • Assist with improving accounting processes and recordkeeping practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare financial, statistical, and other routine reports by compiling data from multiple sources.
  • Process grant reimbursement requests, record deposits, and review supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reconcile accounts, research discrepancies, and help resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a resource to internal teams by providing guidance on financial procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Handle sensitive employee and organizational information with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Provide additional administrative and accounting support as needed, including maintaining well-organized filing systems.

• At least 1-2 years of experience

• Practical knowledge of detailed financial recordkeeping methods and general accounting support functions.

• Experience and/or familiarity processing payroll

• Proficiency with accounts payable and a working understanding of accounts receivable processes.

• Hands-on experience using Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while communicating clearly with colleagues and internal stakeholders.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with others in an organized office setting.

• Strong discretion and reliability when handling confidential agency and employee information.
