Role overview
The Machine Tool Electrician assembles and modifies electrical and electronic equipment in a manufacturing environment. This includes wiring electrical panels and machines, troubleshooting wiring and control issues, supporting final machine inspections, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Assemble electrical systems, components, wiring, and subassemblies.
- Mount components such as transformers, resistors, circuit breakers, and control units.
- Wire, solder, crimp, label, and route cables according to specifications.
- Inspect, test, adjust, and troubleshoot electrical assemblies.
- Support final machine inspection and report missing or nonconforming components.
- Follow UL specifications, project checklists, safety procedures, and lockout/tagout practices.
- Maintain a clean work area, complete documentation, and record time accurately.
- Meet project requirements, deadlines, and budgets.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of electrical assembly or related experience.
- Relevant technical certification or training in electrical assembly.
- Expert ability to read engineering prints.
- Strong knowledge of wire sizes, color coding, cable routing, and electrical components.
- Experience with electrical assembly tools, soldering, and component installation.
- Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles.
- Basic computer and communication skills.
Work environment: Manufacturing floor with machinery noise, extended periods of standing, and some lifting or handling of materials and equipment.
