Sr. Cyber Security Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cyber Security Engineer to strengthen and advance our security posture in Logan, Utah. This 3-month contract requires 1 day on site per month and will focus on protecting enterprise systems, networks, and applications through thoughtful engineering, proactive monitoring, and effective risk reduction. The role works closely with infrastructure and business stakeholders to implement secure solutions, respond to threats, and improve technical safeguards across the environment.

Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and enhance security controls that protect systems, networks, servers, and applications from evolving cyber threats.

• Work alongside IT teams and business partners to ensure security requirements are built into hardware and software selection, setup, and ongoing support.

• Review infrastructure, network, and application architecture to identify weaknesses and recommend practical security improvements.

• Monitor system, server, and network activity logs to detect suspicious behavior, investigate anomalies, and support timely incident identification.

• Assess environments for vulnerabilities, policy gaps, and potential exposure, then help prioritize and remediate identified risks.

• Develop and implement technical defenses that address known threats, reduce attack surfaces, and strengthen overall resilience.

• Participate in security incident response efforts, including analysis, containment, recovery actions, and follow-up recommendations.

• Support security audits, penetration testing, and vulnerability assessment activities, and help drive remediation efforts through completion.

• Track emerging threat trends and advise stakeholders on appropriate mitigation strategies and security best practices.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least 7 years of experience in cybersecurity, including substantial work in a security engineering capacity.
• Strong background in network and firewall security, intrusion detection, monitoring technologies, web security, wireless protection, and cloud security concepts.
• Hands-on experience using CrowdStrike in a production environment.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Python, PowerShell, or Perl.
• Practical knowledge of vulnerability scanning, anti-malware tools, content filtering, and database security controls.
• Solid understanding of common attack methods, exploitation techniques, and defensive mitigation approaches.
• Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate risk and recommend effective solutions.
