We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Applications Engineer to join our CJWinter Thread Rolling Solutions Team. This position is ideal for a mid-level engineer who enjoys solving manufacturing challenges, working directly with customers, and developing practical thread rolling solutions for real-world production applications.
This role combines technical expertise, hands-on problem solving, customer interaction, project management, and process development to support the successful implementation of thread rolling processes and tooling solutions across a wide range of industries.
What You'll Do
As part of the Thread Rolling Solutions Team, you will help customers improve productivity, quality, and profitability through optimized thread rolling solutions and innovative manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate customer applications and recommend thread rolling solutions, tooling, and process improvements
- Review customer drawings, specifications, material requirements, and production objectives to develop optimal thread rolling processes
- Develop, validate, and document thread rolling processes for new and existing applications
- Support customer trials, process validation, troubleshooting, and production implementation activities
- Work hands-on with thread rolling attachments, rolls, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment
- Troubleshoot customer production issues and provide technical recommendations to improve quality, productivity, and tool life
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, product development, and sales teams to ensure successful execution of customer projects
- Assist in the development, testing, and commercialization of new thread rolling products, technologies, and manufacturing solutions
- Prepare quotations, technical proposals, cost estimates, and application recommendations
- Conduct customer training, product demonstrations, and technical presentations
- Support new business opportunities while maintaining strong relationships with existing customers
- Travel to customer facilities as needed to support installations, process optimization, training, and application development (approximately 5-15%)
- Document application data, test results, lessons learned, and best practices to support continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
- 3-7 years of experience in applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, tooling, machining, or a related technical role
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment
Technical Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Experience with machining, metalworking, tooling, fastening systems, or cold-forming processes preferred
- Knowledge of thread rolling processes, tooling, or precision manufacturing is a plus
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software and parametric modeling preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with HubSpot and Infor ERP systems preferred
