Job Title:Lead Software Engineer Location-Type: Hybrid (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday onsite) - Candidates must be located within 50 miles of one of the following offices: Evansville, IN | Baltimore, MD | Irving, TX | Fort Mill, SC | Charlotte, NC Start Date: ASAP (approximately 2 weeks after offer) Duration: Contract to Hire, 18 months Compensation Range: $95-100/hr W2 Benefits: Eligible for Health, Dental, Vision, and 401K Visa Sponsorship: Not eligible for visa sponsorship Job Description:This role serves as the technical anchor for a team of 3-4 engineers, owning approximately 25 Java applications running in a containerized environment while driving a large-scale modernization and cloud migration effort already in progress. Job Summary•Lead a team of 3-4 engineers, including offshore Java resources, through day-to-day Agile ceremonies including planning, standups, and work assignment •Own and maintain approximately 25 Java applications running in an OpenShift cluster, serving as the integration layer between core organizational systems and a file transfer platform •Step into an active migration effort, assess current project status, identify remaining work, and translate findings into actionable stories for the team •Modernize decades-old legacy applications, including refactoring, duplication where appropriate, and eventual migration to the cloud •Troubleshoot issues spanning applications, containers, networking, and AWS infrastructure •Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams to untangle tightly coupled legacy systems and coordinate dependencies •Work heavily with GraphQL as the primary integration layer, with potential TypeScript work depending on project needs Minimum Requirements:•10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong Java background, including ownership and production support of legacy applications •Demonstrated experience as a hands-on technical lead or team lead, actively coding while managing a small team (3-5 engineers) •Experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes and containerized application environments •AWS experience with a solid understanding of networking concepts and how applications and services interact •Kafka experience in a production environment •Heavy GraphQL experience, with the ability to troubleshoot and extend GraphQL-integrated services •Agile experience including planning, story writing, and sprint management •Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and self-direct Preferred Qualifications:•Experience with Apollo GraphQL •TypeScript and/or Node.js experience •Background in legacy modernization or cloud migration projects •Experience leading or collaborating with offshore engineering teams •Financial services or consumer lending industry background
