Structural & Miscellaneous Steel Estimator

R&R Fabrication is hiring a Structural & Miscellaneous Steel Estimator to prepare accurate bids, manage bid opportunities, and build relationships with general contractors.

ONSITE ONLY This full-time position works at our office at 170 Schooner Ln, Prince Frederick, MD 20678. This position is not remote or hybrid. Applicants must be able to work onsite.

Salary: $65,000–$95,000 per year, depending on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects, including stairs, railings, ladders, and related fabricated items.

• Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed estimates using Bluebeam, accounting for materials, fabrication labor, finishes, delivery, and erection/installation scope as applicable.

• Request and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes; identify scope gaps, exclusions, clarifications, and project risks before bids are submitted.

• Monitor and manage online bid platforms, invitations to bid, project documents, addenda, and deadlines.

• Evaluate opportunities with our team and identify projects that fit R&R Fabrication’s capabilities, capacity, and scope of work.

• Communicate with general contractors about bid requirements, scope questions, clarifications, and follow-up; prepare clear proposals and track bid status and results.

• Coordinate with the shop and field team to develop practical estimates and hand off awarded work with clear scope and pricing information.

• As you learn our business, develop new general contractor and industry relationships, pursue bid-list opportunities, and help bring in repeat and new business.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 2 years of estimating experience covering structural steel and miscellaneous steel/metals work.

• Experience using Bluebeam for takeoffs and drawing review.

• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications.

• Understanding of steel fabrication and installation scope and cost drivers.

• Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.

• Clear, professional communication with general contractors, suppliers, and our internal team.

• Ability to work onsite in Prince Frederick, Maryland.

PREFERRED

• Tekla experience is a plus, not required.

• Experience working in online construction bid platforms and following up with general contractors.

• Interest in developing customer relationships and helping grow the business over time.
