Field Service Engineer – Laser Cutting and Sheet Metal Equipment

Put your mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to work where they matter: at customer sites, keeping advanced manufacturing equipment running.

Bystronic is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, service, and repair laser cutting systems, automation equipment, and press brakes. You’ll work directly with customers to diagnose problems, complete repairs and preventive maintenance, and help operators use their equipment safely and effectively.

Travel expectation: This is a field-based role requiring 100% overnight travel, Monday through Friday. You should be comfortable spending the workweek at customer sites and working independently while on the road.

What you’ll do

• Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Bystronic equipment at customer sites.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software-related issues using schematics, testing tools, and your hands-on experience.
• Perform adjustments, upgrades, and preventive maintenance to keep machines operating reliably.
• Explain findings and next steps to customers, and train them on equipment operation, maintenance, and safety.
• Document completed work in clear service reports and provide technical support when needed.

What you’ll bring

• A high school diploma. An associate degree or technical school education in engineering or a related field is preferred.
• Hands-on experience servicing large machinery or installing, repairing, and maintaining machine tools.
• The ability to read electrical schematics and work through mechanical and electrical problems.
• Strong customer communication skills, a service-focused approach, and the ability to manage your work at customer sites.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to rent a car for work travel.

Experience with CNC equipment, laser cutting systems, press brakes, or automation equipment is especially relevant. We’d also value experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, Ethernet or EtherCAT, and machine control components such as I/O modules, servo amplifiers, axis motors, and feedback systems.

You should be comfortable using Microsoft Office and mobile devices such as an iPhone or iPad. Field Service Engineers bring a basic tool kit; Bystronic supplies specialty tools.

This hands-on role may involve lifting up to 70 pounds and bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
