LEAD ASSEMBLER, INSTRUMENT
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Pay Rate: Up to $40.00 per hour (pay rate determined at time of offer)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Interview: On-site

POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Assembler is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, testing, and documentation of medical device products. This position provides day-to-day technical guidance and work direction to assemblers while coordinating closely with engineering to ensure products are built safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality requirements.
The Lead Assembler serves as a key point of contact between engineering and assembly personnel and helps coordinate resources, schedules, materials, and daily build activities.
LEADERSHIP AND TEAM COORDINATION
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and work direction to assembly personnel.
- Promote safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Train, mentor, and support assemblers on established procedures and best practices.
- Assist engineers with daily work assignments, task prioritization, and issue resolution.
- Coordinate assembly activities and support engineering build schedules.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between assembly and engineering teams.
- Provide leadership and direction without direct supervisory authority.
ASSEMBLY AND PROCESS COORDINATION
- Coordinate assembly activities to ensure engineering builds are completed according to schedule.
- Follow established manufacturing processes and communicate process updates as procedures evolve.
- Communicate build delays, material shortages, equipment concerns, and quality issues to engineering.
- Support flexible and changing assembly requirements as product designs and procedures develop.
TECHNICAL OPERATIONS
- Set up, operate, adjust, maintain, clean, and troubleshoot manufacturing and prototype equipment.
- Program equipment to perform established routines and processes.
- Coordinate availability of materials, components, tooling, and chemicals required for development builds.
- Complete and maintain assembly build records and related documentation.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
- Escalate equipment malfunctions and process issues beyond the scope of responsibility to engineering.
- Support the development and implementation of manufacturing process improvements.
QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE
- Perform visual and functional inspections to verify product quality and compliance with specifications.
- Monitor product quality and initiate corrective actions or escalate concerns as appropriate.
- Follow applicable quality system requirements, manufacturing procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready work environment.
- Follow all applicable safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
DOCUMENTATION AND REPORTING
- Complete training documentation and product build documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain clear, legible, and complete records in accordance with quality system requirements.
- Participate in planning meetings and provide updates regarding build status, risks, delays, and resource needs.
- Work closely with the R&D Manager and manufacturing engineering supervisors to coordinate daily activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five or more years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting production or prototype equipment preferred.
- Experience providing team leadership, training, or work coordination preferred.
- Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably medical devices, preferred.
- Experience supporting process improvement initiatives preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a changing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with evolving product designs and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and build workflows.
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain manufacturing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to accurately complete manufacturing and quality documentation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional lifting of 25–50 pounds.
- Frequent lifting of 10–20 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Ability to perform fine motor tasks while maintaining attention to detail during assembly operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in a laboratory environment.
- Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, chemicals, solvents, and varying temperatures.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety procedures.
- May involve prototype equipment, manufacturing processes, and engineering development activities.
