Role Description:

The PLC Applications Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in DeKalb, IL. This role is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing PLC-based control systems, including configuring hardware, developing ladder logic or other PLC code, and integrating HMI/SCADA interfaces. Day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting and debugging control systems, providing technical support to internal teams and customers, performing system testing and validation, and preparing documentation such as wiring diagrams, user manuals, and test reports. The PLC Applications Engineer will collaborate with electrical engineering staff and in-field electricians, participate in project planning, and support installation and commissioning activities at customer facilities. The role also involves maintaining existing systems, identifying opportunities for improvements, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety and industry standards.

Qualifications:

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Technical Support and Testing for industrial control or automation systems.
• Candidates should possess skills in Software Development related to PLC programming, HMI/SCADA configuration, and control logic design (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk, Wonderware, or iFIX).
• Candidates should possess skills in Electrical Engineering, including understanding of circuits, control panels, wiring practices, and safety standards.
• Candidates should possess skills in Mechanical Engineering sufficient to collaborate on machinery integration, motion control, and system layout.
• Relevant qualifications include familiarity with major PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, GE, Siemens, or similar), experience reading and creating electrical schematics, and hands-on experience with commissioning and field support.
• Additional beneficial qualifications include a bachelor’s or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; effective written and verbal communication; and the ability to work safely in industrial environments.
