Firmware & Software Engineer

Leeds Precision Instruments, Inc. is hiring a Full-Time Firmware & Software Engineer to support the execution of embedded controls development projects, working with the hardware, software, validation tests, and system integration functions of forensic imaging systems. This position will also include coding, testing, integrating, and documenting software solutions based on project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design of electrical systems including circuit board design and system wiring requirements.

  • Software and firmware programming to meet requirements determined by the development team.

  • Provide customer support and assistance.

  • Assist in creating training materials and project documentation as needed.

  • Support the manufacturing department with product development and testing.

  • Full Covid vaccination proof required, no exceptions.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.

  • Knowledge of computer architectures, networking, databases, and operating systems.

  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to providing superior customer service.

  • Knowledge of C or other embedded languages and C# or other .NET languages

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong technical background in automation and computers.

  • Sound understanding of the entire Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Minimum 1-yearcircuit board design.

  • Minimum 2-5 years of related work experience.

  • Experience with GitLab/GitHub

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Ability to read and design high-level circuits.

  • Keep current with the latest technical innovations in electrical engineering.

  • Strong understanding of electrical and circuit board design software; preferably Eagle CAD and manufacturing processes.

  • Able to problem solve and troubleshoot as the need arises.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability and flexibility to travel to domestic and international customer sites.

Sample of Current Projects Employee will work on:

  • Maintaining and adding features to:

    • Embedded projects are written in C using Microchip microcontrollers.

    • 2 Projects written in C# using Visual Studio.

  • Troubleshooting circuit boards as needed.

  • Drawing schematics for and routing PCBs (typically <4 per year).

  • Troubleshooting software/firmware-related issues with our products.
