Manufacturing Plant Project Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Plant Project Engineer to lead manufacturing, facility, and capital improvement projects from initial concept through implementation and closeout.

This role will focus on projects that improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, cost efficiency, and ease of operation within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage projects including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, equipment design, installation, commissioning, and closeout.

• Lead plant-level capital, facility, and manufacturing improvement projects.

• Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes, standards, and regulations.

• Evaluate and support industrial utility systems including steam, natural gas, potable water, propane, chilled water, and compressed air.

• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing and support equipment issues and perform root-cause analysis.

• Manage CAPEX budgets and ensure projects remain within approved costs and timelines.

• Develop project scopes, objectives, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.

• Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, contractors, vendors, and other cross-functional teams.

• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, productivity improvement, quality enhancement, and increased equipment reliability.

• Prepare business justifications and project updates for plant leadership and senior management.

• Maintain project documentation including equipment manuals, SOPs, training materials, mechanical/electrical drawings, spare parts lists, and project closeout records.

• Identify and implement new technologies, equipment, and manufacturing methods.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Travel as needed for project milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

• 5+ years of manufacturing/plant engineering experience.

• Experience with project management and capital improvement projects.

• Experience supporting or working with custom manufacturing equipment.

• Experience managing contractors, vendors, and external engineering resources.

• Strong technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with employees, contractors, suppliers, and leadership.

• Strong understanding of engineering standards, codes, and industrial systems.

• AutoCAD experience preferred.

• Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
