Are you passionate about satellite communications, network operations, and mission-critical systems? ORBCOMM is seeking a Satellite Network Engineer to join our Network Control Center (NCC), where you will play a key role in monitoring the operational health of our LEO satellite fleet and next-generation IoT services.

As a member of ORBCOMM’s Network Control Center team, you will help ensure the reliable operation of satellite and IoT services that support customers around the world. Working closely with Satellite Engineering and Network Operations teams, you will monitor critical systems, respond to operational events, and contribute to the continuous availability of our services. This role offers exposure to advanced satellite technologies, network infrastructure, and operational processes in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Sterling, Virginia office, working on a regular shift schedule (including overnight and weekend rotations).

What You’ll Do

Monitor Satellite Operations

• Monitor the operational status and health of ORBCOMM’s LEO satellite fleet during assigned shifts.
• Detect and respond to Tier 1 operational anomalies and events.
• Perform routine operational verification checks to confirm nominal system performance.
• Escalate anomalous conditions to the Satellite Engineering team for investigation and resolution.

Support IoT Service Monitoring

• Monitor next-generation IoT service performance using tools such as Grafana, DataDog, and Nagios.
• Track service availability and identify performance degradation in real time.
• Coordinate with operations personnel to support timely issue identification and response.

Provide Network Operations Support

• Perform basic network testing and troubleshooting across network devices and connectivity paths.
• Assist in resolving connectivity issues involving serial server appliances, switches, routers, and related infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational continuity and service reliability.

Ensure Operational Continuity

• Partner with Network Control Center colleagues and Satellite Engineering teams to facilitate effective shift handoffs.
• Maintain accurate operational records and escalation documentation.
• Prepare clear and structured shift summary reports detailing system status, events, and actions taken.

Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented and technically curious professional who enjoys monitoring complex systems, troubleshooting operational issues, and working in a fast-paced environment.

If you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of experience in network operations, systems monitoring, satellite operations, telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and rotating schedules.
• General knowledge of serial server appliances, switches, routers, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor systems effectively in a mission-critical environment.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to document operational activities, incidents, and escalations clearly.
• Familiarity with satellite system concepts such as LEO architectures, ground segment operations, or communications links. (Preferred)
• Experience using or customizing monitoring dashboards in Grafana. (Preferred)
• Experience writing and executing PostgreSQL queries. (Preferred)
• Basic scripting knowledge in Python or TCL. (Preferred)
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
