Snelling is recruiting an experienced Credit Manager for a Bessemer-area company. This position will oversee customer credit risk and collections, evaluate creditworthiness, establish credit limits, monitor account exposure, and manage past-due balances. The Credit Manager will work closely with Sales and leadership to support business growth while minimizing credit risk and bad debt losses.
Pay: $80,000–$100,000/year, depending on experience
Schedule:Monday–Friday | Full-Time
Key Responsibilities for Credit Manager:
- Review credit applications and establish appropriate credit terms and limits
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness using credit reports, references, payment history, and financial information
- Maintain and regularly review customer credit files and limits
- Monitor customer exposure, payment trends, and aging reports
- Manage collections of past-due balances and communicate with customers regarding payment commitments
- Place accounts on credit hold when appropriate and review requests for credit-limit increases
- Prioritize collection efforts based on account aging, exposure, and risk
- Document collection activity and significant account issues
- Work closely with Sales to resolve payment issues and balance customer needs with credit requirements
- Monitor customers approaching or exceeding credit limits
- Communicate significant credit and collection concerns to management
- Recommend changes to credit terms, limits, or account status
- Coordinate outside collection or legal action on high-risk accounts when necessary
Qualifications Required for Credit Manager:
- Previous experience incommercial credit and B2B collections
- Strong understanding of commercial credit, collections, and risk management
- Steel, metals, industrial distribution, or manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong communication, negotiation, and collection skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities
- Sound judgment when balancing sales growth with credit risk
- Experience with ERP systems, credit reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel
