POSITION OVERVIEW:
AE Works is seeking an experienced registered Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead the design of power distribution, lighting, fire alarm and low-voltage systems on healthcare, higher education, laboratory and federal projects from concept through construction administration. You will provide the final PE stamp certifying that the drawings meet all applicable codes and standards. You will set the technical direction for your projects, lead the power system studies that inform them, guide the designers and EITs handling production, and serve as the primary engineering point of contact for clients in design meetings and on site. This role reports directly to our Electrical Discipline Lead.
LOCATION:
Pittsburgh, PA or Washington, DC with travel to client and project sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, communications and/or telecommunication systems for federal, healthcare, higher education and commercial clients per applicable codes
- Prepare short circuit, coordination, and arc flash calculations
- Experience with the design of highly reliable, robust and concurrently maintainable Medium and Low Voltage infrastructure
- Act as Engineer of Record when assigned, ensuring technical accuracy and accountability
- Review and markup of shop drawings and submittals. Respond to RFI's and review of change orders
- Oversee, guide, mentor and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team
- Interface and lead coordination with all disciplines during the design/coordination phases
- Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
- Recommend improvements to reference standards and processes that enhance quality, strengthen coordination, and streamline production efforts.
- Establish and manage project schedules, ensuring efficient resource use and timely task completion
- Oversee QA/QC process for your work and the work of others
QUALIFICATIONS:
What’s Required:
- 8+ years designing building electrical systems power distribution, lighting and fire alarm for commercial or institutional buildings.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with electrical building systems emphasis
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and a solid understanding of codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IBC, and IECC
- Proficiency in Autodesk, Revit and MS Office
- Engineering software experience (SKM, ETAP, AGI32, or Elumtools)
What Puts You Ahead:
- Healthcare essential electrical systems experience under NFPA 99 and NFPA 110 life safety, critical and equipment branches.
- Active participation in IEEE or IES.
