Assistant Educator

ABC Academy is seeking aflexible, dependable, and enthusiastic Floating Educatorto support classrooms and teaching teams across our program. The Floating Educator is a vital part of our school community, moving between classrooms and age groups throughout the day to provide break coverage, additional classroom support, and assistance wherever it is needed most.

This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys variety, thrives in a collaborative environment, and can confidently adapt their approach to meet the needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. The Floating Educator helps ensure our classrooms remain safe, supported, and engaging while providing consistency and connection for children and their teaching teams.

Support Classrooms Across Age Groups

• Move between classrooms throughout the day based on program needs and staffing schedules.
• Provide reliable break and planning-time coverage for classroom educators.
• Support Lead and Assistant Educators with daily classroom responsibilities and routines.
• Step into classrooms with a positive, calm, and team-oriented approach.
• Adapt quickly to different classroom environments, schedules, routines, and teaching styles.
• Provide additional support during busy transitions, challenging moments, or times when classrooms need an extra set of hands.

Build Relationships with Children

• Develop warm, responsive relationships with children across all age groups.
• Engage children in meaningful play, conversation, exploration, and learning experiences.
• Provide comfort, encouragement, and positive guidance throughout the day.
• Help children feel secure and connected even when working outside of their primary classroom.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to children’s individual needs, interests, and developmental stages.

Support Daily Care and Routines

• Assist with meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, handwashing, rest time, transitions, and other daily routines as appropriate to each age group.
• Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environments.
• Assist with classroom preparation, cleanup, materials, and other tasks that support smooth daily operations.
• Follow classroom routines and program procedures consistently.

Embrace Play and Outdoor Learning

• Participate in indoor and outdoor learning experiences across classrooms.
• Engage children in nature exploration, sensory play, loose parts play, movement, art, books, music, and child-led experiences.
• Support outdoor play in all Vermont seasons while maintaining active supervision and thoughtful risk assessment.
• Be ready to get messy, get outside, and follow children’s curiosity wherever it leads.

Be a Resource for Your Team

• Communicate openly and respectfully with educators and administrators.
• Support classroom teams without disrupting established routines or relationships.
• Ask questions, observe classroom expectations, and follow the lead of the educators within each classroom.
• Offer assistance proactively and recognize when a classroom or colleague may need additional support.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.

Maintain Health, Safety, and Licensing Standards

• Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
• Follow ABC Academy policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety procedures.
• Maintain appropriate ratios and classroom coverage as assigned.
• Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for every child.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working across classrooms and with families.

Required:

• Minimum of 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED

Have any ONE of the following:

• Career Ladder Certificate Level 1 or 2
• CDA and 12 months of experience
• Hold a State Board of Education-approved Human Services Program Certificate emphasizing child development or early childhood education, plus 12 months of relevant experience.
• Successful completion of Fundamentals
