Job Description

This role supports critical environmental cleaning services on active data center construction sites. You will perform ongoing construction cleaning and final cleaning of interior and exterior areas, working closely alongside other trades and heavy equipment to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant environment throughout all phases of construction.

Responsibilities

• Clean all exposed interior surfaces within the construction area from the floor to the building deck above.
• Perform detailed cleaning tasks including mopping, wiping, vacuuming, and brushing surfaces to remove dust and dirt from materials as they are being built or installed.
• Use scissor lifts, boom poles, brooms, towels, and other tools to access and clean hard-to-reach areas safely and effectively.
• Pressure wash exterior panels once installed, as well as generator coverings and flooring, ensuring surfaces meet cleanliness standards.
• Work in and around active construction areas, remaining alert at all times to equipment movement, other trades, and changing site conditions.
• Clean interior surfaces and installed equipment, including beams, walls, and other structural elements throughout the facility.
• Perform work while standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing or working from ladders for extended periods.
• Participate in ongoing power washing activities through all seasons, dressing appropriately for varying weather conditions.
• Follow all site safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to construction site rules.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively while working in groups of 4–5, supporting team members to complete cleaning tasks efficiently.
• Check in daily at the guard shack after walking from the parking lot and comply with site access and security procedures.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and orderly condition at the end of each shift.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience in a labor-intensive role such as construction, general labor, cleaning, janitorial, mitigation, or restoration.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to stand and perform physical work for 10 or more hours per day.
• Experience or comfort working on active construction sites alongside other trades and heavy equipment.
• Ability to safely operate or work around scissor lifts and other site equipment (training provided as needed).
• Strong awareness of safety practices and ability to remain alert in dynamic construction environments.
• Capability to work in hot and cold conditions, outdoors and indoors, in rain or shine.
• Reliability in meeting schedule requirements, including occasional overtime and Saturday work.
• Willingness to complete pre-employment screening processes in accordance with site requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in construction, mitigation, restoration, or similar fields is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with general hand tools and basic construction site practices.
• Experience with environmental cleaning or janitorial work in industrial or commercial settings.
• Knowledge of HAZWOPER or similar safety and environmental standards is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in small teams, demonstrating good communication and cooperation.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards on complex projects.

Work Environment

This position is based on an active data center construction site where approximately 90% of work occurs indoors and about 10% outdoors. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on average, with some days running longer due to construction needs and occasional Saturday work and overtime. There is a 30-minute unpaid lunch break; team members should bring a packed lunch with an ice pack, as refrigerators are not available, though microwaves are provided. Work is performed around equipment that is still being installed, with a variety of trades and heavy machinery operating nearby, requiring continuous situational awareness. There is a roughly 10-minute outdoor walk from the parking lot to the guard shack for daily check-in. Power washing and cleaning activities continue through the winter, so dressing appropriately for cold, wet, or hot conditions is essential. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, and a work-appropriate shirt supplied by the contractor, along with required PPE such as an ANSI-Z89 hard hat, ANSI-Z87 safety glasses, an ANSI safety vest with 2-inch reflective tape, and level 2–4 cut-resistant work gloves (PPE provided unless already owned). Work is performed in small teams of 4–5, fostering a collaborative, physically active, and safety-conscious environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
