Job Description

The Machinist plays a key role in the machine manufacturing process, working from custom blueprints to set up and operate a variety of manual machines to fabricate precision parts. This role focuses on manual mills and lathes, as well as bandsaws, drill presses, grinders, and other equipment, to produce high-quality components to tight tolerances. The Machinist independently sets up machines, runs parts, and, when capable, regularly operates CNC lathes and mills to support production needs.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from custom blueprints to plan machining operations and produce precision parts.
• Set up and operate manual mills, manual lathes, bandsaws, drill presses, grinders, and related equipment to fabricate components.
• Work to close tolerances, ensuring all parts meet required specifications and quality standards.
• Independently set up machines, select appropriate tooling, and run production and prototype parts.
• Use precision measurement tools to inspect parts and verify dimensions throughout the machining process.
• Perform basic CNC machine operation and setup on CNC lathes and mills when needed.
• Apply understanding of programming to support CNC machining processes.
• Assist with mechanical assembly tasks in the shop when required to support overall production.
• Collaborate with team members to cross-train in other departments and share technical knowledge.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• 3–5 years of experience in setup and operation of manual mills and manual lathes in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven ability to set up and operate manual mills, manual lathes, drill presses, bandsaws, and related equipment.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret complex and custom drawings.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify tight tolerances.
• Understanding and hands-on experience with CNC operation and CNC setup.
• Ability to work independently to set up machines and run parts with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Programming experience, ideally using Solidworks or similar software.
• Proficiency in setup and operation of CNC machines, including CNC lathes and mills.
• Mechanical assembly experience to support other areas of the shop when needed.
• Willingness to cross-train in other departments and learn new processes and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy manufacturing environment where you work directly with manual mills, lathes, bandsaws, drill presses, grinders, and other shop equipment. The facility is not climate controlled, but there is heat available during winter months and large fans to improve comfort in warmer seasons. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. The environment is hands-on, production-focused, and geared toward precision machining and mechanical work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hanover, PA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Hanover,PA.
