Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present high-quality meals with an emphasis on scratch cooking in a high-volume setting.
• Maintain strict quality and portion control to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.
• Execute food preparation tasks efficiently, including chopping, measuring, and assembling ingredients.
• Create visually appealing food presentations that enhance the dining experience.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
• Ensure all food is stored properly according to safety and quality standards, including labeling and rotation.
• Follow safe food handling policies, procedures, and standardized recipes at all times.
• Operate and care for a variety of kitchen equipment and tools safely and correctly.
• Identify and differentiate food items accurately to support proper preparation and service.
• Provide courteous and responsive customer service to students, staff, and guests.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff and other foodservice workers to support smooth tray line and food production operations.

Essential Skills

• At least one year of prior culinary experience in a quality, high-volume establishment with a focus on scratch cooking.
• Working knowledge of proper culinary methods, techniques, and standards.
• Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in preparation, cooking, and presentation.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in using various kitchen equipment and tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to identify and differentiate food items accurately.
• Customer service experience, with a strong customer service–oriented approach.
• Strong organization skills to manage prep work, cooking tasks, and kitchen cleanliness.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and support service.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Experience in food preparation and foodservice operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Food handler certification is preferred.
• Experience as a food service worker, line cook, or chef is beneficial.
• Food production and tray line service is an advantage.
• Hospitality experience in a campus or similar environment is a plus.
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly work area and follow cleaning procedures.

Work Environment

The role is based on the West Virginia University campus, working across various dining areas in the Evansdale, WV area. You will operate in a busy collegiate foodservice environment that includes dining halls and other campus venues, with steady foot traffic and high-volume meal periods. The kitchen uses a range of commercial cooking equipment and tools, and staff are expected to follow established food safety and sanitation standards. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on delivering consistent, high-quality meals to students and campus guests.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boxborough, MA.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
