Data and Systems Manager

The National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) is seeking a Data & Systems Manager to take ownership of the Association's data environment and help modernize its systems, reporting, and data processes.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with data, improving systems, and building practical solutions. You'll work directly with NAAB staff, members, and industry stakeholders to improve how data is collected, managed, validated, reported, and used across the organization.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with both legacy systems and modern technologies, with the ability to take ownership of projects from identifying an opportunity through implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Data Systems & Modernization

• Assess and document existing data systems, including legacy databases such as Access

• Migrate priority datasets into a modern relational database environment such as PostgreSQL

• Improve data structure, quality, consistency, and maintainability

• Lead phased system improvements while maintaining operational continuity

Data & Process Improvement

• Build data pipelines and workflows that reduce manual processing

• Standardize and validate data from members, partners, and other sources

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and eliminate repetitive processes

• Develop reliable, scalable processes for managing organizational data

Reporting & Analytics

• Develop dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools

• Automate manual or static reporting processes

• Provide staff and stakeholders with timely, accurate, and accessible information

• Improve visibility into operational and industry data

Integration & Support

• Support API, data-sharing, and system integration initiatives

• Work with external technical partners or contractors when needed

• Help ensure systems can support future growth and integration

• Serve as the primary internal resource for data and systems-related needs

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in data, systems, analytics, database management, or a related field preferred

• Experience improving or modernizing legacy or highly manual data environments

• Experience taking ownership of technical projects and implementing practical solutions

• Experience working in a small organization, association, or lean team is a plus

Technical Skills

• Strong SQL and relational database experience

• Experience with data cleaning, transformation, validation, and pipeline development

• Familiarity with Python or similar scripting tools

• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or comparable reporting and visualization tools

• Understanding of modern database and information system technologies

Helpful, Not Required

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms

• Familiarity with APIs and system integrations

• Experience in agriculture, livestock, genetics, animal breeding, or related industries
