Role Overview
The Receiving/Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating the accurate and timely movement of inbound and outbound shipments and supporting the daily operations of APC’s shipping and receiving department. This role serves as a central point of coordination for shipment flow, carrier activity, documentation, and communication across internal teams. The position processes domestic and international shipments, prepares and reviews required shipping documentation, and reconciles inbound materials against airway bills, manifests, and supporting records. The Receiving/Shipping Clerk also plays an important role in protecting revenue by identifying and promptly reporting shortages, overages, damage, and other shipment discrepancies. Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily shipping and receiving priorities, shipment flow, carrier activity, and communication across internal teams.
  • Process domestic and international outbound shipments using UPS WorldShip, DHL shipping systems, and FedEx Ship Manager.
  • Prepare shipping labels, airway bills, packing slips, commercial invoices, and other required shipping documentation.
  • Review international shipment details and documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to release and assist with customs-related documentation as needed.
  • Receive, inspect, count, and accurately record inbound mail, parcels, freight, and materials.
  • Reconcile received materials against airway bills, manifests, packing lists, and other shipping records.
  • Identify and promptly report shortages, overages, damaged materials, incorrect items, and other discrepancies to Customer Service, Operations, and appropriate leadership.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving records to support inventory control, billing accuracy, customer service, and revenue protection.
  • Coordinate with carriers, drivers, warehouse personnel, Customer Service, and Operations to support the timely movement of shipments.
  • Monitor shipment deadlines and proactively communicate delays, carrier issues, missing documentation, and other operational concerns.
  • Load and unload trucks using propane-powered or electric forklifts and safely move, stage, sort, and organize inbound and outbound freight.
  • Build, wrap, label, and secure pallets for shipment or storage.
  • Use Microsoft Office and email to support communication, reporting, documentation, and shipment follow-up.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping and receiving area and assist with additional operational duties as needed.

They anticipate discrepancies and operational concerns and take ownership of following them through to resolution. They value accuracy, accountability, and follow-through and use strong organization and problem-solving skills to prevent issues before they escalate.

Physical Requirements:
The employee must periodically lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, generally for approximately one hour per day or less. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform other warehouse-related activities as needed. The employee must also be able to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • High school diploma required
  • 1+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, logistics, parcel or mail distribution, or transportation
  • Strong working knowledge of UPS WorldShip, DHL shipping systems, and FedEx Ship Manager
  • Experience with domestic shipping processes and documentation; international shipping experience and familiarity with customs requirements strongly preferred
  • Experience operating propane-powered and electric forklifts, loading and unloading trucks, and preparing pallets for shipment
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation, reporting and shipment records
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to reconcile shipments against supporting documentation and identify discrepancies
  • Strong communication, coordination, problem-solving, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Current forklift certification preferred
