Job Overview

This position is primarily responsible for performing the recurring analytical and production work of the Risk Management function. This encompasses many tasks including daily review of incoming casualty claims, maintenance of the data that drives insurance premium and reserve calculations, monthly and quarterly reporting on occupational injury and supporting the enterprise risk assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Claim intake and data integrity
    • Review First Reports of Injury and nurse triage reports, verifying that reported detail is complete, internally consistent, and correctly characterized.
    • Verify and correct location coding in the carrier’s claim’s management system.
    • Identify repeat claims, coding anomalies, and defined exception conditions, and escalate them to the department head.
    • Maintain claim records in carrier’s claim’s management system as detail develops, and coordinate with adjusters as needed.
    • Enter claim count, incurred loss, and paid loss into the reserve variance model.
  • Recurring reporting
    • Produce recurring claims reports such as occupational injury and property damage.
    • Produce reports designed to drive risk reduction such as product liability, slip analysis, and enterprise risk indicators.
    • Compile the quarterly litigation schedule across the casualty lines.
    • Reconcile reporting data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Program data and records
    • Maintain the Sold Plan exposure bases that drive premium.
    • Maintain the department's master record of total cost of risk.
    • Prepare paid loss invoice package supporting the general insurance reserve.
    • Support the enterprise risk assessment.
    • Retrieve and package claim documentation for Internal Audit, Legal, and management requests.
    • Verify claim detail in response to management queries.
    • Prepare standalone exposure analyses as needed.
    • Contribute to process improvement in the function's recurring work, including report consolidation and reconciliation automation.
Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, risk management, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
    • One to three years in insurance, claims administration, risk management, accounting, or an analytical reporting role. Candidates with a relevant internship or co-op in place of full-time experience will be considered.
    • Advanced Excel: pivot tables, lookup and reference functions, and the ability to maintain, audit, and extend an existing model without breaking it.
    • Demonstrated accuracy in high-volume, repetitive data work, and the discipline to sustain it over months rather than weeks.
    • Ability to reconcile two systems of record, investigate differences to root cause, and document the resolution.
    • Clear written communication, sufficient to produce executive-level reports.
    • Sound judgment in handling confidential claim information, including information relating to individual employees and customers, in accordance with company policy.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with a risk management information system.
    • Exposure to workers' compensation, general liability, or auto casualty claims, particularly under a large-deductible or retrospective program.
    • Familiarity with state workers' compensation systems.
    • Experience in a multi-site retail, distribution, or transportation environment.
    • Familiarity with AuditBoard or a comparable governance, risk, and compliance platform.
    • Progress toward an insurance or risk designation ARM, AIC, CRM, or similar.
    • Experience automating a recurring reconciliation or report, in any tool.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based role with a daily processing rhythm; claim intake review is performed every business day and does not defer well.
  • Month-end and quarter-end reporting cycles carry firm internal deadlines.
  • Occasional coordination with distribution centers, home delivery operations, and retail locations.
