About Us:Building One Community (B1C) is a Stamford, Connecticut-based nonprofit supporting the successful integration of immigrants and their families. At B1C, immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive. We provide free services that educate, employ, empower and engage immigrants and the broader community. Our programs include English Language classes, Family and Individual Support Services, Academic Enrichment Programs, Immigration Legal Services, and Workforce Development programs

Position Overview

The Development Manager will support the implementation of B1C’s fundraising strategy, with a focus on individual donor cultivation and stewardship, development operations, fundraising campaigns, and Board engagement. The position will manage day-to-day donor relations and gift administration while helping strengthen relationships with current and prospective supporters.

The Development Manager reports to the Director of Development and External Relations and works closely with the Executive Director, Communications, Programs, Finance, Events, and other members of the B1C team. This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

  • Manage individual donor and prospect records and track cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up activities.
  • Develop and execute donor acknowledgment and stewardship strategies, including personalized communications, donor recognition, and engagement opportunities.
  • Support donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade strategies, including recurring and mid-level giving.
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare donor briefings, solicitation materials, and outreach lists for leadership and Board members.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, prospects, visitors, volunteers, and other supporters through tours, invitations, communications, and other engagement opportunities.

Development Operations & Fundraising

  • Maintain accurate and timely donor database records, including gifts, pledges, recurring donations, and other giving modalities.
  • Process and acknowledge gifts; archive supporting documentation; track outstanding pledges; and coordinate with Finance on deposits and reconciliation.
  • Generate fundraising reports and metrics, including campaign and event results, donor retention, giving trends, and donor segments.
  • Support the planning and execution of the Annual Appeal and other fundraising campaigns, including segmentation, communications, tracking, and follow-up.
  • Support fundraising and cultivation events through guest lists, donor tracking, communications, logistics, and post-event stewardship.
  • Maintain the Development calendar and track key deadlines, donor follow-ups, campaigns, events, and other priorities.

Board & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors, Board Alumni Group (BAG), and assigned Board committees, supporting meeting preparation, communications, action-item tracking, and follow-up.
  • Partner with leadership to engage Board and BAG members in fundraising, donor cultivation, advocacy, and organizational advancement.
  • Coordinate with Programs and Communications to develop mission-driven donor communications that highlight B1C’s impact.

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Development, Communications, Programs, Finance, and Events to support fundraising and donor engagement initiatives.
  • Provide additional support for Development Department priorities, including special projects, campaigns, cultivation activities, and events.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience with donor management databases; DonorPerfect experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, project management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when managing donor records, gift processing, communications, and multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and contribute to a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Constant Contact preferred.
  • Experience with Bloomerang (formerly Qgiv) preferred.
  • Familiarity with donor prospecting platforms such as iWave preferred.
  • Ability to work onsite a minimum of three days per week.
