Homeward Bound is Marin County’s primary provider of shelter and housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We offer emergency shelter, short- and long-term supportive housing, job training and placement, and wraparound services. Our mission is Opening Doors to Safety, Dignity, Hope, and Independence.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Family Programs, you'll provide intensive case management, resource navigation, client advocacy, and housing support. You'll partner with families, landlords, property managers, shelter programs, and community providers to promote long-term housing retention and economic independence.

This position is part of the Family Programs team and will also support other Department of Housing and Urban Development programs as needed. It is an opportunity for a patient, collaborative professional who understands Housing First and enjoys helping families navigate complex systems.

What You'll Do

You'll coordinate housing and supportive services for Family Place participants, including:

  • Provide comprehensive case management services to approximately 8-16 families living in supportive housing
  • Offer services and resources that promote housing retention, stable housing, and greater economic independence
  • Determine and document program eligibility according to Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements for chronic homelessness
  • Coordinate housing placements with Coordinated Entry, shelter programs, and local partners serving people experiencing chronic homelessness
  • Complete and maintain all applicable CalAIM program requirements
  • Maintain timely and accurate records, case notes, incident reports, home-visit reports, and monthly and quarterly reports
  • Enter and maintain accurate participant information in HMIS and HIPPO (Salesforce)
  • Address barriers to housing stability using Housing First principles and provide voluntary supportive services at least monthly or as needed
  • Provide supportive counseling, guidance, referrals, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
  • Help residents strengthen life and money-management skills and connect with community resources
  • Conduct habitability inspections and annual assessments of residents' service needs
  • Support other HUD programs with documentation, file preparation, and securing housing units when needed
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with participants, supervisors, colleagues, property partners, and leadership
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and training
  • Provide supportive counseling, referrals, crisis intervention, and strengths-based problem-solving
  • Conduct habitability inspections and annual assessments of residents' service needs
  • Help fill housing vacancies promptly by coordinating qualified referrals with Homeward Bound programs and local partners
  • Partner with program and volunteer managers to coordinate volunteer-led events for families
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, chart reviews, and other quality-assurance activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and communicate with families, colleagues, and partners with respect, dignity, and kindness

You'll also provide emergency support when needed, which may include coordinating with law enforcement, psychiatric services, community agencies, and other Homeward Bound staff.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two to three years of experience working with under-resourced or low-income populations
  • Experience with case management, housing services, resource navigation, or community engagement
  • Experience in residential or housing programs and knowledge of the Housing First model
  • Knowledge of tenant rights and responsibilities under fair housing laws
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health issues that may affect housing stability
  • Strong communication, empathy, interpersonal, organization, documentation, and crisis-management skills
  • A valid driver's license, current vehicle insurance, and the ability to drive approximately 250 miles per month between scattered sites throughout Marin County
  • Ability to travel between housing sites, use a computer for moderate periods, occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl, and lift or move up to 40 pounds

Preferred

  • Experience supporting individuals or families who have experienced homelessness
  • Knowledge of Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care grant requirements
  • Experience partnering with landlords or property managers
  • Knowledge of life skills and money management
  • Experience entering and managing data in HMIS, Salesforce, or similar systems
