Electrical Engineer – MEP Consulting

Experience Level: 5–10 Years
Full-Time | Engineering & Consulting

Dallas, TX

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a growing MEP engineering team and take a key role in the design and delivery of building electrical systems. This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys meaningful project ownership, technical problem-solving, and working collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical design for commercial, institutional, healthcare, education, industrial, or mixed-use buildings, along with hands-on experience using Revit and a solid understanding of electrical codes and industry standards.

What You'll Do

  • Design electrical systems for new construction, renovations, and complex building projects.
  • Develop electrical construction documents, specifications, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment schedules.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Design power distribution, lighting, emergency/standby power, and life safety systems.
  • Develop lighting layouts and perform lighting calculations and controls design.
  • Design and coordinate fire alarm, telecommunications, security, and other low-voltage systems as applicable.
  • Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to develop coordinated electrical drawings and documentation.
  • Apply NEC, NFPA, energy codes, and applicable local building codes to project designs.
  • Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, plumbing, structural, architectural, and civil disciplines.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate directly with clients, architects, contractors, and project teams.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and construction documents.
  • Conduct site visits and field investigations as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support project managers with budgets, schedules, proposals, and project delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 5–10 years of electrical engineering/design experience, preferably within an MEP consulting environment.
  • Strong experience designing electrical systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and applicable building/energy codes.
  • Experience with power distribution, lighting, life safety, and electrical calculations.
  • Ability to independently manage design tasks and contribute to projects from concept through construction.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • PE license or active pursuit of licensure preferred, but not required.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or leading portions of projects is a plus.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role is designed for an engineer who is ready to move beyond simply producing drawings and take greater ownership of projects, clients, and technical decisions.

You'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of building projects, collaborate with experienced professionals across multiple disciplines, and continue developing both your technical and project-management skills.

Whether you're an experienced Electrical Engineer looking to take the next step toward Project Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Project Manager, or a PE looking for a stronger platform to grow, this position offers room to build a long-term career.
