The structural steel painter is responsible for applying protective coating and paints to steel structures, ensuring they are adequately prepared and finished to meet aesthetic and functional requirements. This role involves surface preparation, painting, and coating of steel components, following safety protocols, and ensuring the longevity and durability of steel structures in various environments.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED
2. Previous experience in painting, specifically in structural steel or industrial settings.
3. Knowledge of various paints, primers, thinners, and their application methods.
4. Proficient in using spray guns, brushes, and rollers for coating applications.
5. Strong attention to detail and quality control.
6. Ability to follow safety guidelines and procedures while working with hazardous materials.
7. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
1. The job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow.
2. Wear Personal protective equipment (Safety glasses, face shield, gloves) and a respirator when required
3. Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
4. Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts.
5. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
6. Good physical stamina and strength (Lift 51 pounds)
7. Constantly moving on your feet.
8. Possess good vision (normal or corrected)
