Afternoon Dispatcher & Router
My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full-time Afternoon Dispatcher & Router opportunity available for a major trucking firm located in Kearny, New Jersey that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below and I am available at any time to speak with you so please feel free to call me. The work schedule for this role will be 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
The firm is seeking an organized and experienced Afternoon Dispatcher & Router to monitor daily operations and prepare routes for the following business day.
The ideal candidate understands transportation operations, driver scheduling, hours-of-service requirements, fleet availability, and route planning. The firm is an established transportation and logistics company specializing in professional delivery, white-glove service, warehousing, and distribution throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Qualifications:
Dispatching, transportation, or route-planning experience preferred
Knowledge of DOT and hours-of-service requirements
Experience with Samsara, ELDs, GPS, or similar fleet-management systems is preferred
Strong computer, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple drivers, vehicles, and routes
Strong attention to detail and communication skills
Knowledge of straight trucks, tractor-trailers, vans, and liftgate equipment is a plus
Responsibilities:
Monitor active routes, driver progress, delays, breakdowns, and estimated return times
Assist drivers with delivery issues, customer changes, and route-related questions
Review all deliveries and pickups scheduled for the following day
Build safe and efficient routes based on location, appointment times, route duration, and customer requirements
Assign drivers, helpers, trucks, start times, and loading order
Review employee schedules, PTO, callouts, and availability before making assignments
Verify driver hours and required resets in Samsara to prevent HOS violations
Confirm that assigned trucks are available, operational, and appropriate for each route
Track trucks that are in the shop, out of service, or due for maintenance
Ensure every scheduled job is assigned to a route
Provide the warehouse with the following day’s loading and departure order
Publish the completed schedule by the required deadline
Prepare a clear handoff for the Morning Dispatcher, including potential staffing, fleet, or compliance concerns
This position pays $55,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, dental & vision, PTO, Holiday Pay and a 401K package.
