Supervisor - Foundry Molding & Pouring. This leadership role oversees the daily operations of the sand molding and bronze pouring departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in foundry operations, employee leadership, continuous improvement, and manufacturing best practices. This position plays a key role in driving safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance while developing team members and supporting operational excellence.
Job Description As the Foundry Molding & Pouring Supervisor, you will lead employees and production activities throughout the molding and pouring process, from pattern placement through bronze pouring and related operations.
Key Responsibilities- Promote and maintain a safe work environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards.
- Supervise daily shop floor activities, monitor performance, and coach employees to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
- Support employee engagement, well-being, and professional growth.
- Lead daily shift meetings and participate in production and supervisor meetings.
- Ensure required training is completed and employees possess the skills necessary to perform their roles safely and effectively.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Monitor staffing levels and labor performance to support operational and revenue goals.
- Review quality metrics and corrective actions to address internal and external quality concerns.
- Lead Continuous Improvement Team (CIT) activities and other operational improvement efforts.
- Monitor and coach adherence to QCDSM, accountability reporting, 5S, TPM, and other lean manufacturing programs.
- Conduct monthly 5S audits and support daily TPM improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate and oversee major equipment repairs within the department.
- Develop department leads and prepare high-potential employees for future leadership opportunities.
- Receive incoming raw material shipments and outgoing deliveries.
- Monitor and assist with ingot inventory reconciliation and material management.
- Order parts, supplies, and manage warehouse inventory as needed.
- Ensure routine testing of sand and ingot materials is completed according to established schedules.
- Maintain sand laboratory equipment and spectrometer systems.
- Spend approximately 70% of time in the production environment and 30% performing administrative and office duties.
- Operate forklifts and use electric and pneumatic hand tools as required.
QualificationsRequired- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in foundry operations, metal casting, manufacturing supervision, or a related production environment.
- Strong understanding of sand molding, metal pouring, and foundry production processes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach, motivate, and direct employees.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability.
- Ability to establish, interpret, and manage performance metrics related to quality, cost, and delivery.
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and best practices within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with quality systems, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and 5S methodologies.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and regularly work in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate forklifts and production equipment safely.
Preferred- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related field.
- Completion of American Foundry Society (AFS) coursework or other foundry-related training.
- Experience with purchasing systems, cost management, and inventory control.
- Previous experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of spectrometer operation, sand testing procedures, and laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Experience developing team leads and succession planning for supervisory roles.
