Vision Direct is a direct mail, customer communications, and fulfillment provider. We produce, finish, kit, and ship high-volume mail and printed materials for clients who depend on accuracy and on-time delivery.

Position Summary

The Bindery Operator sets up, runs, and maintains finishing equipment to convert printed materials into finished, mail-ready products. This role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to hit quality and throughput targets in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, inserters, stitchers, tabbers, and shrink wrap systems

• Read and follow job tickets, specs, and work orders to ensure correct stock, folds, trims, and quantities

• Run first-piece approvals and perform ongoing quality checks throughout each job

• Make in-run adjustments to maintain registration, fold accuracy, and output speed

• Track counts, spoilage, and job completion in production logs or the job tracking system

• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance

• Troubleshoot jams and mechanical issues, and escalate problems quickly to minimize downtime

• Stage, band, box, and palletize finished work for mailing or shipment

• Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe

• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout where applicable

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 1+ year of bindery, print finishing, or production equipment experience preferred

• Mechanical aptitude and comfort making equipment adjustments

• Strong attention to detail and basic math skills for counts and measurements

• Ability to read job tickets and follow written instructions

• Reliable attendance and ability to work overtime during peak volume

Physical Requirements

• Stand for extended periods during a full shift

• Lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly

• Bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand motions

• Work around moving machinery and moderate noise levels

Preferred Experience

• Operating inserters or folders in a direct mail environment

• Familiarity with USPS mail prep and presort requirements

• Experience with guillotine cutters or high-speed finishing lines

• Forklift or pallet jack certification
