Job title: Product Development Engineering (Lab Tech)

Duration: 12+ months of contract

Contract type : W2

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Laboratory Technician I Contractor in the Materials & Characterization R&D group will be responsible for conducting testing /experiments; writing technical reports; supporting test request work flow and operation of equipment in the materials characterization labs. They will ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training and education of sound quality assurance principles; ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.

Project Responsibilities

oReporting to the Lab Manager, the incumbent performs bench-level engineering tests and/or research experiments designed to test the feasibility of concepts or technologies required for development or revision of new products.

oLab Organization:Follow and support the workflow process for the materials R&D labs including instrument operation and maintenance. Follows GLP.

oProcess Effectiveness: Ensure appropriate processes are followed for effective and timely stakeholder engagement and completion of assignments.

oContinuous Learning: Actively seek training to improve skills. Ensure technical lessons are reviewed, learned and disseminated.

oOther duties as assigned.

Leadership

oAccountability:Demonstrate strong and clear accountability for the successful and timely completion of assigned tasks.

oCommunication: Hold and encourage frequent formal and informal communication within the team.

Required Qualifications

oBachelor’s Degree in a Technical or Science Field

o0-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

oExperience with polymer characterization / testing instruments and equipment

oTraining in laboratory safety and procedures.
Good communication skills (written and verbal)

Desired Qualifications

oExperience operating one or more specific instruments / equipment (including Instron mechanical tester; TGA; DSC; FTIR; Rheometers, Profilometers; is desired.

oGood technical skills and judgment.

oBasic understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory and quality requirements.

oStrong fit with BD values.

oExperience with basic statistical analysis and software (e.g. Minitab) preferred.

oProficient in MS Office / Word / Excel / PowerPoint
