The Refurbish Technician repairs, cleans, rebuilds, and prepares rental units for customers, ensuring each unit is safe, functional, and visually appealing. This role suits individuals with hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, remodeling, carpentry, painting, facilities or apartment maintenance, handyman work, or renovation projects. You will perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks with minimal supervision, working in a dynamic environment where each day brings different challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Repair drywall and sheetrock damage to restore walls and ceilings to a clean, finished appearance.
  • Perform interior and exterior painting, including prep work, priming, and touch-ups, to ensure a professional finish.
  • Repair and replace flooring, including vinyl and other common materials, to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Remove and replace stickers, decals, and signage as needed to maintain accurate and presentable unit labeling.
  • Carry out general maintenance and repairs on rental units, addressing issues promptly to ensure customer readiness.
  • Clean and detail rental units thoroughly, including interior and exterior surfaces, to prepare them for new customers.
  • Remove debris, materials, and leftover items from previous customers to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Repair and adjust doors, locks, windows, and associated hardware to ensure proper function and security.
  • Perform basic carpentry repairs such as framing, trim, and minor structural adjustments as required.
  • Complete basic plumbing repairs, such as fixing minor leaks or replacing simple components, as needed.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting to identify and resolve minor electrical issues safely.
  • Conduct touch-up work on surfaces, fixtures, and finishes to ensure units meet delivery standards.
  • Inspect units for overall quality, safety, and customer readiness, documenting and correcting deficiencies.
  • Stage units for customer pickup and delivery, ensuring they are properly positioned and prepared.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
  • Support turnover maintenance and unit preparation activities for mobile offices, portable buildings, modular buildings, and storage containers.
  • Assist with demolition, remodeling, and facility repairs as part of refurbishment and building restoration projects.
  • Perform construction-related tasks such as install, framing, roofing, and assembly as needed for unit refurbishment.
  • Contribute to preventive maintenance and quality inspection efforts to reduce future repair needs and maintain high standards.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, remodeling, carpentry, painting, facilities maintenance, apartment maintenance, handyman work, or renovation projects.
  • Proficiency in drywall and sheetrock repair, including patching and finishing.
  • Ability to perform interior and exterior painting with attention to detail and surface preparation.
  • Experience with flooring repair and replacement, including vinyl and other common flooring types.
  • Skill in general maintenance and repair tasks for rental units or similar facilities.
  • Capability to repair doors, locks, windows, and related hardware.
  • Basic carpentry skills, including minor framing, trim work, and structural repairs.
  • Basic plumbing skills for simple repairs and adjustments.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills for minor electrical issues.
  • Ability to perform quality inspections and ensure units are customer-ready.
  • Proficient use of hand tools and power tools, with a strong focus on safe operation.
  • Familiarity with punch lists and completing items required for unit turnover.
  • Experience in facility repairs, building maintenance, and refurbishment work.
  • Capability to follow safety protocols consistently and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in property maintenance, building maintenance, or apartment maintenance, including make-ready or turn technician roles.
  • Experience as a refurbishment technician, renovation technician, remodeler, handyman, or carpenter.
  • Knowledge of general construction practices, including demolition, install, framing, roofing, and assembly.
  • Experience with interior and exterior painting, including touch-up work and detailed finishes.
  • Familiarity with flooring installation and repair, especially vinyl flooring.
  • Exposure to warehouse maintenance and mobile office, portable building, modular building, or storage container preparation.
  • Experience with building restoration and facility repairs in a construction or maintenance environment.
  • Ability to perform lock repair, door repair, window repair, and other facility hardware tasks.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and quality inspection processes.
  • Comfort working with hand and power tools in a variety of construction and maintenance settings.
  • Background in farm hand or similar hands-on roles that demonstrate mechanical aptitude and physical capability.
  • Strong attention to detail when cleaning, detailing, and preparing units for customer delivery.

Work Environment

This role is based in a maintenance and construction-focused setting that involves working on rental units, mobile offices, portable buildings, modular buildings, and storage containers. You regularly use hand tools and power tools for tasks such as drywall repair, painting, flooring, framing, roofing, demolition, assembly, and general repairs. The work includes both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to typical construction and facility conditions such as dust, noise, and varying temperatures. You may work in warehouse or yard areas when staging units for pickup and delivery, and you follow established safety protocols at all times. The position requires practical, task-appropriate attire suitable for construction and maintenance work, including the use of required personal protective equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
