Position Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor will lead the day-to-day operation of a two-shift industrial machine shop, with responsibility for safety, quality, scheduling, budgets, project execution, and personnel. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong visibility on the shop floor and a working knowledge of both CNC and manual machining.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day machine shop activities and set priorities across active jobs and projects.
- Take ownership of machine shop safety, quality, schedules, budgets, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership presence on the shop floor and set the pace for supervisors and machinists.
- Estimate costs for machine shop projects and support project planning before work begins.
- Coordinate machine shop schedules with fabrication-shop activity to meet production and delivery commitments.
- Oversee machine shop personnel, including interviewing and hiring new team members.
- Support troubleshooting of equipment, machining processes, programming, and part setup as needed.
- Promote practical problem solving, sound decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the shop.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of machine shop and fabrication operations.
- Hands-on knowledge of CNC and manual machining, including part setup.
- CNC programming knowledge.
- Equipment troubleshooting knowledge.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to motivate machinists and supervisors in a production-focused environment.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in engineering, management, or a related discipline.
