Pilz is currently seeking a Safety Application Engineer.

The Safety Application Engineer will have the opportunity to support customers in a wide range of services from basic product technical support to compliance with machinery standards. This team will be responsible for everything from machine risk assessment at customer facilities to safety design and programming to machine safety validation.

Duties and Responsibilities: (not limited to)

  • Answer and document (Pilz C4C) customer phone and email inquiries related to the technical and practical application of Pilz product lines by applying technical knowledge and skills to resolve technical issues and develop solutions to support customer needs
  • Test and verify customer products/returns
  • Create internal reference documentation and provide technical product training for internal customers as needed
  • Provide machinery safety expertise in both written and verbal communications
  • Create and review reports from Consulting Team to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Be able to identify hazards on a machine (e.g. exposed gear/chain)
  • Conduct varying types of Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments
  • Perform validation (physical testing) on a machine at customer’s facility
  • Review electrical circuits and calculate the Performance level of the circuit
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable standards
  • Design Automated safety solutions Mechanical and Electrical via concepts using various software tools
  • Provide presentations to customers based on assessment results
  • Able to coordinate projects that integrates Pilz services and controls equipment using contractors for customers
  • Develop PLC programming code including Ladder, Structure Text, Function Block
  • Install and troubleshoot hardware and peripheral devices
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of complimentary and competitive products
  • Support the Sales team in converting customers from competitors
  • Develop Trade show and sales demos
  • Rotational on-call for after hour customer emergency Technical Support
  • Other duties as assigned

Travel will be required up to 80%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or similar
  • Ability to read electrical/controls schematics; specifically, power and control wiring
  • Understanding of basic electrical design and control principals of industrial machines
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Willingness to learn Pilz products and procedures
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, multi-tasking and team oriented

Desired Qualifications:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of hands-on experience with industrial machinery
  • PLC development and testing software including Rockwell, Siemens, etc.
  • VFD and Servo Motor control experience
  • Hands-on troubleshooting machine control systems, machine start-up/de-bugging and sign-off
  • Understanding of basic pneumatic and hydraulic circuits
  • Familiar with Sistema calculation software
  • Able to read and understand Fluid (pneumatic and/or hydraulic) power circuits
  • Understanding of Mechanical guarding designs and techniques

Physical Requirements:

  • Seated for extended periods with extensive screen (computer) time
  • May be required to move/lift Pilz test equipment which may weigh up to 30 pounds
    • Reasonable accommodations will be made where possible
  • Must be able to meet safety requirements of customers when on-site including climbing stairs and/or ladders and possibly working in confined spaces
