A maritime law firm is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support attorneys handling admiralty and maritime matters. This role will provide critical administrative and legal support in a fast-paced practice focused on complex litigation, regulatory, and commercial matters involving the maritime industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to attorneys
- Draft, edit, proofread, and format correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and other legal documents
- Manage calendars, court deadlines, hearings, meetings, and travel arrangements
- File legal documents with courts and agencies, including e-filing when applicable
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files
- Coordinate communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and vendors
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, binders, witness materials, and scheduling
- Track billing, expenses, and attorney time entry
- Support compliance, contract management, litigation, and document review processes
- Conduct basic legal and factual research as needed
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Litigation Assistant, or similar legal support professional
- Prior experience in maritime, admiralty, insurance defense, personal injury, or commercial litigation preferred
- Strong knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, and document formatting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative legal team
