Job Description

Job Description
Job Title: Quality EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to join a rapidly growing manufacturing team and ensure that complex, precision components consistently meet engineering specifications and customer expectations. In this role, you inspect parts using advanced measurement tools, lead root cause and corrective action activities, and drive continuous improvement across machine shop, forge, and spin department operations. You collaborate closely with project engineers, production supervisors, and cross-functional teams to support quality system compliance, certification audits, and data-driven process improvements, with a strong emphasis on laser scanning and dimensional analysis using PolyWorks.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and evaluate manufactured components using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and laser scanners.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements to verify product accuracy, dimensional conformance, and adherence to specifications.
  • Perform 3D inspections and detailed dimensional analysis using laser scanning technology and PolyWorks software to validate part geometry and identify deviations.
  • Support machine shop, forge, and spin department operations by monitoring component dimensions and ensuring parts remain within tolerance throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, production supervisors, and other cross-functional partners to maintain quality standards, improve process reliability, and resolve technical issues.
  • Lead Material Review Board (MRB) activities to disposition non-conforming products, including evaluation, documentation, and decision-making on rework, repair, or scrap.
  • Drive Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and 5 Whys to eliminate recurring defects and process failures.
  • Support compliance with ISO standards and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, including preparation for and participation in certification and regulatory audits.
  • Develop clear inspection plans, work instructions, and acceptance criteria for receiving, in-process, and final inspections to ensure consistent and repeatable quality checks.
  • Lead First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements, including documentation, measurement, and reporting of initial production runs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce scrap, improve first-pass yield, and enhance process control through data analysis and targeted process changes.
  • Establish and monitor quality key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze performance data, identify trends, and report QMS metrics and findings to leadership.
  • Implement strategic quality improvements based on data-driven insights and process performance analysis to strengthen overall product quality and manufacturing robustness.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of inspection results, non-conformances, corrective actions, and audit findings in alignment with QMS and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and standard inspection methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience using precision measurement tools and techniques, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, laser scanners, and related inspection equipment.
  • Proficiency with dimensional analysis and inspection software, with PolyWorks experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone diagrams, and in implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and quality frameworks, including AS9100 and ISO 9001, and practical experience working within a formal Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and other departments, building strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills, with attention to detail in recording inspection results, non-conformances, and audit-related information.
  • Physical ability to lift parts weighing up to 70 pounds and place them on granite tables or other inspection surfaces for measurement.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in machine shop environments and supporting forging and spinning operations from a quality perspective.
  • Background in auditing activities related to ISO 9001 or other quality standards, including internal or external audits.
  • Exposure to AS9102 requirements and prior responsibility for conducting First Article Inspections.
  • Experience establishing and monitoring quality KPIs, reporting QMS metrics, and presenting quality data to leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce scrap and improve first-pass yield.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for explaining technical findings and collaborating on corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic manufacturing environment that includes machine shop, forge, and spin department operations where precision components are produced for regulated industries such as aerospace and defense. You will work regularly with granite inspection tables, precision measuring instruments, laser scanning equipment, CMMs, and computer-based dimensional analysis tools such as PolyWorks. The position involves hands-on inspection tasks, including lifting parts up to 70 pounds and positioning them for measurement, as well as time at a workstation analyzing data, preparing reports, and updating QMS documentation. Work is typically performed during standard production hours, with collaboration across engineering, production, and quality teams to support ongoing operations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
