2. DETAILED TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 2.1. Automic (UC4) Platform Engineering & Workflow Design
  • Object Architecture & Design: Build, configure, test, and maintain enterprise UC4 objects including Workflows (JOBP), Jobs (JOBS), Static and Dynamic Calendars (CALE), Events (EVNT), Sync objects (SYNC), and dynamic PromptSets.
  • Scripting & Logic Automation: Develop and enhance advanced Automic Scripting Language routines to handle conditional branching, return code validation, runtime variable passing, and dynamic schedule triggering.
  • Agent Configuration & Health: Configure, patch, monitor, and troubleshoot UC4 target agents across z/OS/MVS, UNIX/Linux, and Windows server environments.
  • Automation Engine Administration: Monitor Automation Engine (AE) performance, manage Communication Processes (CP) and Work Processes (WP), maintain queue health, and perform routine database housekeeping.
  • Transport & Change Deployment: Package, validate, and promote scheduling objects across DEV, TEST/QA, and PROD environments using Transport Cases and strict version control.

  • JCL Maintenance & Tuning: Review, optimize, and debug Job Control Language (JCL), PROCs, parameter overrides, and control cards invoked by Automic batch jobs.
  • Job Queue & Spool Monitoring: Monitor batch job initiators, execution queues, and spool utilization via SDSF, JES2, and TSO/ISPF.
  • Cross-Platform File Transfer Scheduling: Configure and manage workload automation tasks involving cross-platform data transfers (NDM/Connect:Direct, SFTP) between mainframe and distributed nodes.
  • Storage Team Interfacing: Interface directly with Mainframe Storage Administrators to troubleshoot storage-related batch failures, space abends, and tape mount prerequisites.
2.3. Production Incident Management & Abend Resolution
  • Abend Investigation: Act as Tier 2/3 escalation point for production batch cycle abends, analyzing UC4 task logs and z/OS job outputs concurrently to resolve failures.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform detailed technical RCA on recurring job cancellations, lockups, and schedule delays; implement preventative logic within workflows.
  • Early-Morning Stabilization: Support morning operational checkouts to ensure overnight critical paths completed successfully prior to business hours.
  • On-Call Incident Triage: Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to resolve Sev-1/Sev-2 batch workflow halts according to defined SLAs.

  • Privileged Access Compliance: Operate within enterprise least-privilege security policies across Automic Web Interface (AWI) user privileges and z/OS access controls.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure batch job security parameters, credentials, and encrypted variables are safeguarded in accordance with corporate data protection standards.
  • ITIL Alignment: Comply with enterprise ITIL standards for Incident, Problem, and Change Management (e.g., ServiceNow); ensure all production schedule modifications have approved change tickets.
4. QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years dedicated experience administering and engineering Broadcom Automic Automation (UC4 v12 or higher).
  • Scheduler Mastery: Deep expertise in Automic Automation Engine, Automic Web Interface (AWI), Scripting Language, agent administration, and Transport Cases.
  • Mainframe Competency: Solid working proficiency in z/OS JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JES2 commands, and standard IBM batch utilities.
  • Cross-Platform Operations: Familiarity with UNIX/Linux shell scripting, Windows batch/PowerShell, and distributed OS agent troubleshooting.
  • Process Discipline: Working experience in enterprise environments utilizing ITIL incident and change workflows.
