Senior Project Manager – Aerospace Manufacturing
Travel: Up to 20%
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex capital equipment and aerospace manufacturing projects from contract award through design, build, installation, and completion.
This role will manage cost, schedule, performance, customer relationships, and project profitability while coordinating cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, finance, and operations teams.
Projects may include aerospace tooling, composite and metallic manufacturing equipment, automation, assembly systems, jigs and fixtures, and other custom engineered-to-order equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple complex projects while managing cost, schedule, scope, and overall project performance
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules using Microsoft Project
- Monitor project financial performance, including P&L, cash flow, budgets, forecasts, and cost variances
- Identify project risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, finance, procurement, and other internal teams to meet project objectives
- Manage customer relationships through regular project updates, presentations, and issue resolution
- Negotiate financial, contractual, technical, and schedule-related issues with customers and suppliers
- Identify changes in project scope and manage the change-control process
- Evaluate the cost and schedule impact of customer-requested changes and negotiate appropriate adjustments
- Review project performance and conduct variance analysis with financial support
- Read and interpret blueprints and CAD models and understand basic GD&T principles
- Lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment and ensure clear accountability across project teams
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure projects meet contractual requirements while protecting profitability and customer relationships
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Construction Management, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in project or program management
- Experience managing complex manufacturing, engineering, capital equipment, or engineered-to-order projects
- Strong understanding of project cost, schedule, scope, and performance management
- Ability to read blueprints/CAD models and understand basic GD&T principles
- Experience with project financials, including P&L and cash management
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze project data
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to negotiate and resolve financial, contractual, and technical disputes
- Experience with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly technical manufacturing environment
Preferred Background:
Candidates with experience in the following areas are strongly preferred:
- Aerospace or defense manufacturing
- CNC machining and fabrication
- Welding and sheet metal manufacturing
- Aluminum, titanium, or Inconel manufacturing
- Aerospace tooling, molds, jigs, and fixtures
- Composite manufacturing, including carbon fiber, prepreg, layup, autoclave, bonding, or honeycomb
- Capital equipment
- Industrial automation
- Custom or engineered-to-order equipment
- Aerospace assembly systems
PMP certification is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to travel up to 20% to customer, supplier, and other company locations
- Some overnight and out-of-area travel may be required
- Must be willing and able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
- Must meet U.S. Person requirements under ITAR regulations
