About Z Transportation
Z Transportation is a family-owned transportation and logistics company based in New Jersey. Since 2006, we have built our business around reliability, strong customer service, and long-term relationships.
As we continue to grow, we are expanding our warehouse, distribution, and 3PL services to provide more complete logistics support to our customers.
The role
We are hiring a Business Development Manager – Warehouse & Logistics to win new customers for our warehousing and logistics services.
This is a hunter role. Your main job is to find companies that need storage, fulfillment, distribution, or logistics support, understand what they need, and close profitable business.
You will also help source warehouse, 3PL, and carrier capacity when a deal requires it. Sales comes first. Procurement supports the sale.
What you will do
Win new business
- Find and qualify companies that need warehousing, fulfillment, distribution, or logistics services.
- Build a pipeline through outbound calling, email, LinkedIn, referrals, networking, and industry events.
- Run discovery meetings and warehouse tours.
- Prepare proposals covering storage, handling, pick/pack, fulfillment, cross-dock, transportation, and value-added services.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts.
- Close new accounts and coordinate a clear handoff to operations.
Grow and protect revenue
- Expand business within existing accounts where it makes sense.
- Stay close to customers during onboarding so the first 30–90 days go well.
- Track activity, pipeline, and forecasts in the CRM.
- Meet monthly and annual new-business targets.
Support the deal with sourcing
- Identify warehouse, 3PL, and carrier options needed to deliver the services you sell.
- Obtain quotes, compare rates, and help negotiate supplier and vendor terms.
- Work with operations to confirm capacity, labor, equipment, and service levels before making commitments to customers.
- Maintain a working network of reliable warehouse and logistics partners.
What success looks like
- A consistent pipeline of qualified warehouse and logistics opportunities.
- New customers signed at healthy margins.
- Clear proposals that operations can execute.
- Accurate CRM records and weekly activity reporting.
- Strong relationships with customers, warehouse partners, and carriers.
What you need
- 3+ years of B2B sales experience, ideally in warehousing, 3PL, fulfillment, freight, distribution, or supply chain services.
- A proven record of finding and closing new business, not only managing existing accounts.
- Working knowledge of warehouse operations, including storage, inbound/outbound processes, pick/pack, inventory, and shipping.
- Comfort discussing pricing, capacity, service-level agreements, and contract terms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and follow up consistently.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 50% for customer meetings, site visits, and industry events.
Nice to have
- An existing network of customer relationships in manufacturing, wholesale, retail, e-commerce, food and beverage, or industrial distribution.
- Experience selling pallet storage, fulfillment, or contract logistics.
- Familiarity with WMS, TMS, or CRM tools such as Salesforce or HubSpot.
- Experience requesting and evaluating quotes from warehouses, 3PLs, or carriers.
What we offer
- Base salary plus uncapped commission.
- Health and dental insurance.
- Paid time off.
- Direct access to company leadership.
- An opportunity to help grow Z Transportation’s warehouse and 3PL business.
