Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented
Project Engineer to support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure projects remain organized, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and company standards.
This position is ideal for an individual who understands construction processes, communicates effectively, takes ownership of assigned responsibilities, and can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with the overall administration and coordination of construction projects from preconstruction through completion.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, submittals, RFIs, and other project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and other project documentation.
- Assist with project scheduling, tracking milestones, and identifying potential delays or issues.
- Communicate regularly with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, consultants, and internal team members.
- Assist with subcontractor and vendor procurement, including obtaining and evaluating pricing and supporting the buyout process.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices, pay applications, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with project cost tracking, budget updates, and forecasting.
- Maintain accurate and organized project files and documentation.
- Attend project meetings and prepare or distribute meeting documentation and action items as needed.
- Assist with reviewing project drawings and identifying discrepancies, conflicts, or potential constructability issues.
- Coordinate with the field team to ensure project information, drawings, specifications, and revisions are communicated effectively.
- Assist with material procurement and delivery coordination.
- Track long-lead materials and help identify potential procurement issues before they impact the project schedule.
- Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day project needs.
- Assist with preparation of project reports, schedules, logs, and closeout documentation.
- Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, warranties, as-builts, O&M manuals, and other required documentation.
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project partners.
- Identify problems early and communicate them promptly to the appropriate member of management.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent construction experience.
- Experience in commercial construction, construction project management, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively with both field and office personnel.
- Ability to identify issues, take initiative, and follow through to resolution.
Preferred
- 1+ years of experience in a Project Engineer or similar construction role.
- Experience with commercial, industrial, multifamily, or other large-scale construction projects.
- Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Experience with project scheduling software.
- Knowledge of construction estimating, budgeting, procurement, and project cost controls.
