Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

Join a precision manufacturing team as a Machine Operator, supporting the production of cemented carbide components used in the packaging and beverage can manufacturing industry. In this role, you set up and operate production machinery, perform detailed inspections, and ensure products meet exacting quality standards in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. Positions are available on 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM) and 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM).

Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and process sheets to determine production requirements and machine setup parameters.
  • Set up and operate production machinery according to established work instructions, standard operating procedures, and quality standards.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling and equipment to achieve required product specifications, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Perform pre-process, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment to verify product conformity.
  • Accurately record inspection results, production data, and process information in company software systems and production tracking tools.
  • Maintain product quality throughout the manufacturing process and ensure all specifications and customer requirements are consistently met.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures, quality requirements, safety guidelines, and job safety analyses (JSAs).
  • Identify and communicate quality concerns, equipment issues, and production problems to supervisors and technical support personnel in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following housekeeping standards and 5S practices.
  • Operate multiple machines as needed and manage production priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives by suggesting process improvements and participating in improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with operators, quality personnel, and supervisors to meet production schedules and resolve issues.
  • Use precision grinding and precision machining operations as required to produce components to specification.
  • Utilize CNC operation, burn table, water jet, and other production equipment where applicable to support manufacturing processes.
  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.

Essential Skills

  • Previous manufacturing, machine operation, or production experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed work instructions.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for production tracking and inspection documentation in company software systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to product quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production goals and quality standards.
  • Good communication skills to effectively share information and escalate issues to supervisors and technical support personnel.
  • Effective teamwork skills to collaborate with operators, quality personnel, and supervisors in a production environment.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting and operating multiple machines as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating grinders, CNC equipment, or other precision manufacturing machines.
  • Experience in precision grinding and precision machining operations.
  • Familiarity with burn table and water jet equipment in a production environment.
  • Experience in a quality-focused manufacturing environment with strict specifications and inspection requirements.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to interpret and follow job safety analyses (JSAs) and structured safety procedures.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement, 5S, or similar operational excellence programs.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility producing precision cemented carbide components. Employees spend most of their shift standing, walking, and operating equipment in a fast-paced production environment with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and efficiency. Daily work involves frequent use of precision measuring tools and inspection equipment, as well as regular interaction with machine operators, quality personnel, and supervisors. The role requires the ability to lift and move materials up to 20 pounds, with assistance available when necessary. Overtime and weekend work may be required during periods of increased production demand. The facility maintains a clean, organized, and safety-focused atmosphere that supports consistent, high-quality output.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Latrobe, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $45760.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
