JDS Consulting is seeking a reliable and motivated Structural Engineering Technician to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with construction or field engineering experience who is interested in applying engineering principles to real-world projects.
The Structural Engineering Technician will meet with clients at construction sites, perform structural evaluations and inspections, document observations, and prepare technical reports with recommended solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong construction knowledge, excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in the field.
As a representative of JDS Consulting, the technician is expected to provide exceptional customer service and serve as an ambassador for the JDS brand.
Primary ResponsibilitiesPerform structural investigations and inspections of foundations and framing systems.
Meet with clients at construction sites to document observations and determine their needs.
Apply engineering principles and JDS standards to identify logical, cost-effective solutions.
Evaluate construction work and verify compliance with plans and specifications.
Prepare detailed daily reports documenting field observations and findings.
Prepare clear, accurate technical engineering reports outlining recommended solutions.
Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Research technical questions and identify solutions using online resources and other available tools.
Exercise sound judgment and practice risk management when making field decisions.
Obtain additional certifications as required by JDS Consulting.
Collaborate with other JDS Consulting employees to support the company’s long-term vision of becoming a premier provider of engineering, design, and construction material testing services in the Southeast.
Participate in assigned training and cross-training with other departments or positions when workload or weather prevents the employee from reaching 40 hours per week.
High school diploma required.
Engineering degree preferred.
Experience in field engineering or construction management required.
Working knowledge of construction practices and the ability to learn and apply engineering principles.
Experience with wood design is a plus, but not required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with client representatives.
Willingness to obtain required certifications and participate in ongoing training.
This is a field-based position requiring work at active construction sites. Employees may be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and potential hazards, including:
Heights and elevated work areas.
Heavy equipment and construction-related hazards.
Highway and traffic-related hazards.
Uneven terrain and walking surfaces.
Candidates must be able to stand, walk, and safely navigate uneven surfaces and construction environments.
