What You’ll Do
- Translate drawings, specs, and 3D models into reliable CAM programs for 3-, 4-, and 5axis mills and (preferably) CNC lathes.
- Create, modify, and optimize programs in Mastercam for accuracy, surface finish, and efficiency.
- Define machining strategies: tooling, speeds/feeds, fixtures, operation order, and setup approach.
- Produce operatorready setup sheets, tooling data, and work instructions.
- Assist with setups, firstpiece runs, and program proveouts; provide onthefloor technical support.
- Troubleshoot program, tooling, workholding, dimensional, finish, or machine issues quickly.
- Continuously improve existing programs for cycle time, tool life, quality, and throughput.
- Use SolidWorks and other 3D data to verify paths and validate manufacturability.
- Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and indicators to confirm conformance.
- Partner crossfunctionally with Engineering, Quality, Production, and the Machine Shop to resolve challenges.
- Maintain revisioncontrolled programs and documentation aligned to current engineering requirements.
- Comply with AS9100 procedures, customer requirements, and internal work instructions.
- Keep the work area orderly and safe; support broader ProType initiatives as needed.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational machining or manufacturing education preferred.
- 18+ years of age.
- Experience programming CNC equipment in a precision metal environment.
- Mastercam (or similar CAM) proficiency; 3-, 4-, and/or 5axis milling required; lathe programming preferred.
- Knowledge of CNC mill/lathe setup and operation with practical machining experience.
- Expertise in tooling selection, speeds/feeds, fixtures, sequencing, and general manufacturing processes.
- Manual machining experience a plus.
- Fluency in reading blueprints, 3D models, and technical specs; strong GD&T application skills.
- SolidWorks or other 3D CAD experience.
- Metrology skills with micrometers, calipers, gauges, and indicators.
- Problem-solver able to diagnose program, tooling, workholding, tolerance, finish, and machine issues.
- Clear communicator who creates concise setup instructions and supports operators.
- Strong math, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Ability to balance multiple jobs in a deadlineoriented production schedule.
- Works independently and collaborates well with Shop, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams.
- Experience in aerospace/defense or within an AS9100-certified environment preferred.
- Consistent attendance; able to work assigned schedules and overtime when required.
- Physical capability to stand for long periods (full shift) and lift/move up to 75 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
