Job Title: Quality InspectorJob Description

An established aerospace manufacturing facility specializing in spool and sleeve components is seeking a hands-on Quality Inspector to perform visual and dimensional inspections throughout the production process. This role focuses on ensuring that parts meet blueprint specifications and quality standards by conducting in-process, first article, and final inspections on components coming off mill and lathe machines.

Responsibilities
  • Perform visual and dimensional in-process inspections on parts as they come off mill and lathe machines to verify conformance to blueprints and specifications.
  • Conduct first article inspections to ensure new or revised parts meet all required tolerances and quality standards before full production runs.
  • Complete detailed Final Inspection Reports with accurate measurements, findings, and documentation for each inspected part or lot.
  • Use hand tools such as calipers, micrometers, blade micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions.
  • Operate and interpret results from optical comparators and air gaging equipment to assess part features and tolerances.
  • Review and interpret engineering blueprints, drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) requirements to guide inspection activities.
  • Perform thorough visual inspections to identify surface defects, damage, or nonconformities on components.
  • Apply knowledge of calibration systems in accordance with ANSI Z540 to ensure measuring equipment remains accurate and reliable.
  • Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles to monitor quality trends and support process improvements.
  • Follow AS9100 and ISO9001 quality system procedures and documentation requirements during all inspection activities.
  • Maintain organized inspection records and communicate findings to production and quality teams in a clear and timely manner.
  • Stand for extended periods while performing inspections on the shop floor and at inspection stations.
  • Support a safe and clean machine shop environment by adhering to all safety guidelines and using provided personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and data recording.
  • Strong writing skills to complete inspection reports and documentation accurately.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing inspections.
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools used in inspection, including calipers, micrometers, and blade micrometers.
  • Knowledge and use of optical comparators and air gaging for dimensional inspection.
  • Ability to perform precise visual inspections to identify defects and nonconformities.
  • Solid blueprint reading skills, including understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations and processes in a machine shop or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of calibration systems in accordance with ANSI Z540 standards.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and its application in monitoring manufacturing quality.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO9001 quality system requirements and procedures.
  • Comfort working around mill and lathe machines and inspecting parts immediately after machining.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in quality assurance or production inspection within the manufacturing industry.
  • Exposure to aerospace components or precision machining environments, though aerospace-specific experience is not required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing inspection documentation and records.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a structured quality system and process-driven environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a machine shop environment that supports aerospace manufacturing operations. The work schedule follows a Monday through Thursday, 4/10 structure for first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the potential to work Fridays after the first month on an optional or as-needed basis. A second shift schedule runs from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Once trained, employees must be open to up to 2 hours of overtime per day. The shop is warm in the summer and cool in the winter, and overall noise levels are moderate, so earplugs are generally not required while on the floor. Personal protective equipment is provided, and the environment is designed to support safe, comfortable, and efficient inspection work around mill and lathe machines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pomona, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
