We are partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity backed organization in Birmingham that is looking to add an Assistant Controller to its accounting team. This is a newly created position driven by growth and continued acquisition activity.

This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA who wants to move into a hands on industry role with significant visibility and room for continued advancement. You’ll work directly with the Controller and play a key role in month end close, financial reporting, technical accounting, controls, and multi entity accounting as the organization continues to scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Take ownership of significant portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
  • Prepare financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate and GAAP compliant
  • Assist with multi entity accounting and consolidations
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting
  • Oversee project cost accounting and WIP schedules
  • Help develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Support cash management and cash flow forecasting
  • Work with external auditors and tax providers
  • Help improve accounting systems and processes as the company grows
  • Take on additional responsibilities and special projects in a lean, entrepreneurial environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required
  • Public accounting audit experience strongly preferred
  • Strong GAAP and technical accounting knowledge
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong month end close and financial reporting experience
  • Self motivated and comfortable working in a small, hands on accounting team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a rapidly growing environment
