I'm partnering with a well-established real estate organization seeking a Controller to join its leadership team. This is a newly created role that combines responsibilities previously handled by a long-tenured finance leader along with strategic projects currently supported by the CFO. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will serve as a key business partner and oversee the full finance and accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a finance and accounting team of approximately six professionals
• Oversee financial reporting, month-end close, GAAP compliance, and overall accounting operations
• Manage balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, and third-party transaction reporting
• Analyze real estate performance metrics including IRR, cash-on-cash returns, rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, and recoveries
• Partner closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, special projects, and operational improvements
• Serve as a polished representative of the finance team when interacting with clients, lenders, board members, and other external stakeholders
What We're Looking For
• CPA required
• 15+ years of accounting and finance experience
• Real estate/property accounting experience required
• Strong operational accounting and financial reporting expertise
• Advanced Excel skills
• Proven leadership and team management experience
• Highly detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a lean environment
