The Maintenance Mechanic on 3rd shift will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems within a GMP food manufacturing environment. This role supports production by ensuring equipment reliability, assisting with machine setups and modifications, and maintaining accurate maintenance records in CMMS systems while consistently following safety protocols and food safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production and packaging equipment, HVAC systems, and related machinery according to established schedules.
  • Assist with machine setup, changeovers, equipment modifications, and rebuilds to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct basic PLC troubleshooting to support automated equipment operation and identify control-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and update records in CMMS systems in a timely and organized manner.
  • Follow all safety protocols, GMPs, and food safety standards while performing maintenance tasks and working in production areas.
  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, and test equipment to perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Support minor upgrades and improvements to equipment to enhance reliability, performance, and safety.
  • Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and respond to equipment issues during the shift.
  • Participate in company-provided training, including PLC programming courses and other technical development opportunities, and apply new skills on the job.
  • Train on 1st shift for the designated period to learn equipment, processes, and safety procedures before transitioning to 3rd shift.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with GMP requirements and facility standards.
Essential Skills
  • 2–5 years of industrial maintenance experience with a focus on troubleshooting and repair of production equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical systems and components.
  • Hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of basic tools and mechanical systems and the ability to use them safely and effectively.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting safely within established guidelines.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to follow GMPs and food safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to work 3rd shift hours and occasional additional shifts as required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and update CMMS systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 1+ year of experience in GMP or food manufacturing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with packaging equipment in a production environment.
  • Experience working in a warmer environment near ovens or heat-producing equipment.
  • Interest in expanding technical skills through company-paid training, including PLC programming courses.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with production and maintenance teams.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on equipment reliability and safety.

Work Environment

This position is a 3rd shift role with hours from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Wednesday (three 12-hour shifts), with occasional additional work on Fridays as needed. New hires must train on 1st shift for approximately 1–2 months to become familiar with equipment, processes, and safety procedures before moving to 3rd shift. The work takes place in a GMP food manufacturing environment that requires specific attire, including hair nets, beard nets as applicable, steel-toe footwear, smocks, and safety glasses. The area is generally warmer due to working near ovens, and the facility does not use boilers or ammonia systems. Work involves regular interaction with production equipment, packaging machinery, HVAC systems, and CMMS tools in a structured, safety-conscious setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85800.00 - $85800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
