Controller (Nonprofit)
Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions for a nonprofit organization. This position ensures accurate financial management, adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, grant and fund accounting compliance, and provides financial guidance to executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Manage nonprofit fund accounting and ensure proper allocation and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.
Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and financial reporting requirements.
Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare and review Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility.
Prior nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
Experience with fund accounting, grants management, and donor-restricted funding.
Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
Experience managing audits and regulatory compliance.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
