Job Title: Controls Project ManagerJob DescriptionThe Controls Project Manager plans, leads, and coordinates all activities associated with the execution of multiple Building Automation System (BAS) and MEP construction projects across the continental United States. This role oversees projects through the entire lifecycle, from conceptual development, submittal package assembly, and estimating, to engineering coordination, field installation, commissioning, and final closeout. The position blends strategic leadership with hands-on management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with contract specifications, while supporting a culture of excellence, safety, and innovation.
Responsibilities- Lead the transition and handoff of projects from engineering design into field implementation, ensuring all stakeholders understand scope, schedule, and deliverables.
- Assist in assembling comprehensive engineering submittal packages and collaborate closely with design engineers to clarify technical details, address field revisions, and resolve discrepancies.
- Organize, schedule, and oversee field installation, commissioning, and overall project execution for BAS and MEP projects across the continental United States.
- Direct project closeout activities, including preparation of final documentation, conducting job walkthroughs, managing punch lists, and coordinating warranty handoffs.
- Conduct regular construction meetings and coordinate effectively with project teams, site supervisors, owners, and agency representatives to maintain alignment and resolve issues.
- Develop, maintain, and update baseline project schedules to reflect current progress, milestones, and resource needs.
- Communicate scheduling plans clearly to field personnel, subcontractors, and prime contractors to ensure work is executed as designed and on time.
- Proactively identify potential job-site obstacles, risks, and constraints, and implement timely solutions to avoid delays and cost overruns.
- Provide continuous direction, support, and resource allocation to field teams to maintain productivity, quality, and safety.
- Monitor internal workforce and subcontractor performance for compliance with safety requirements, quality standards, budget targets, and contract documents.
- Assist in coordinating commissioning, programming, and test-and-balancing (TAB) efforts to ensure proper system start-up, integration, and performance.
- Manage the submittal, request for information (RFI), and construction administration processes to maintain clear documentation and communication throughout the project.
- Manage project expenditures and job cost accounting, including tracking costs, reviewing and approving invoices, and monitoring payments.
- Ensure accurate and timely project documentation, including reports, logs, and records necessary for financial and contractual compliance.
- Assist business development and pre-construction teams with proposal generation, scope development, and cost estimating for upcoming projects.
- Support the implementation of modern construction technologies and project delivery methods to improve efficiency and project outcomes.
Essential Skills- 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in building automation systems, HVAC controls, or MEP construction environments.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls and building automation systems, including their integration into mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Experience with commissioning activities for building automation and HVAC systems, including system start-up and functional testing.
- Understanding of federal construction practices and requirements, including coordination with owners and agency representatives.
- Familiarity with PLC programming concepts as they relate to controls and automation projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, priorities, and deadlines across geographically dispersed sites.
- Strong skills in project scheduling, resource planning, and coordination with field personnel and subcontractors.
- Proven capability to manage project budgets, job cost accounting, and financial documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for leading meetings, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing RFIs and submittals.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues early and implement practical, timely solutions.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to contract specifications throughout the project lifecycle.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based out of an office in Huntsville, Alabama, with up to 25% travel required to project sites across the continental United States. Work involves a mix of office-based planning, coordination, and documentation, along with on-site visits to active construction and commissioning environments. The position provides exposure to cutting-edge construction technologies and modern project delivery methods, and operates within a collaborative culture that emphasizes safety, quality, accountability, and innovation. Project sites may involve typical construction conditions, requiring appropriate adherence to safety protocols and site procedures.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
